As you and Ran pulled up to the beach grabbing your milkshakes. You hop out of the car and taking your shoes off to walk with the sand in between your toes. Feeling all the stress leave your body as you continue towards the water soaking up the little bit of rays that danced off the water from the ocean.

You dropped your shoes in the sand and continued forward towards the water, letting the lasting waves touch your toes before the water pulled them back. The water was cold, but it made you feel alive. The chill running up your body making you realize how alive you really were. Regardless of the events that have made you feel so empty and worthless, you were still alive. Reminding you just how much you over come and still on top.

Not once knocking you down forever. You tilted your head back letting the wind blow your hair with the smell of the sea blowing past you. You stepped to turn around, seeing Ran sitting there with the same smile that could possibly be brighter than the sun, just staring at you. As you walked up to him taking a sip from your milkshake and sitting in between your shoes and him.

"What's got you so cheerful?" you asked.

"I just hope your happy." Ran said leaning back on his hands starring out into the ocean now.

"Of course, I'm happy! What's wrong?" you said back with a questionable tone.

"I'm trying may hardest to give you the world and keep you safe at the same time. Sometimes I feel like I'm failing." He said sadly, not breaking eye contact from the ocean.

"Hey, don't be so hard on yourself. You're doing an amazing job. Better then mom or dad. I'm grateful for everything that you and Rin have done for me. You should be proud of yourself Ran." You replied, trying to comfort him. Knowing that majority of his life was making sure you were happy, safe, and cared for. Never letting you go a day without knowing you are loved.

It was quite for a few minutes. You didn't want to say anything, just letting the moment sink in. Not wanting to rush his feelings, making sure your words were heard and understood. You took the final sip of your milkshake and laid your back in the sand. Letting it take form of your body as you starred at the stars that were twinkling in the sky above you, barely visible from the sun struggle to stay above the water line of the sea.

"I haven't seen you do that in a long time." Ran spoke breaking the silence between you two.

"Huh?" you replied shifting your head towards him, as he was still propped up by his hands.

"Looking up towards the sky. The last time you did that was the day we went to the diner." He chuckled back with a sadness painted over his face.

"That was one of my favorite days with you two you know." He said back softly, starring at the brightest star in the sky.
