Hey everybody, author here! I just want to shout out to @DefinatelyNoOne because she's so nice and super helpful! Also, she has a great fanfiction called Dragon//Yandere Dream SMP x Reader. It's probably the BEST story I have ever read on Wattpad, totally go and read it!

There will be some mention of porcelain masks in this chapter, so I'm saying this beforehand. This is NOT a horror book, and I will try my best to not scare people. I'm pretty much the definition of a scaredy cat, so I understand if you're worried about that! Pinkies crossed, I will try my best to not make it scary.

TW- descriptive gore, extreme panic and fear

Pls let me know if there are any other trigger warnings that I need to put in here, thank you!

Also everybody have a great day!

I struggle against Simon, trying to free myself from his unyielding grasp. After he'd grabbed me from my previous horse, he'd shot Carson and then rode away. We weren't going in the direction of our kingdom, but we're also evading my earlier kidnappers.

We've been riding for hours in the same direction, and I haven't any idea why. I don't know of any trading markets in this direction, and there aren't any kingdoms. Well, except for the one in the myth.

Legend says that there used to be a kingdom here, called the Kingdom of the Masks. A long time ago, they were supposedly attacked by our kingdom, the Winged Empire. Losing badly even in their own lands, the people ran underground to hide. The Winged Empire left, thinking they'd won. And ever since, the Kingdom of the Masks has been biding their time to come back out of the shadows and bring down their enemy.

Of course, this is a legend. There's no proof that anything like this ever happened, except maybe the rumored curse in the Land of Masks. No one has even found the sign that a castle ever existed here. But about three hundred years ago, the land became cursed. Almost everybody who looks for the castle, or even enters the land, disappears. The few that do come back are insane, saying that they were dragged underground and tortured by invisible men.

The horse slows down slightly as we reach a short woods, and I notice an old, rotting sign laying on the ground. The words Land of Masks are painted on it in fading red letters. A sense of foreboding creeps down my back, making me shiver slightly.

I shake the feeling off, Are you going to believe in legends, now, Laina? I ask myself crossly. You should know better than that!

"Scared?" Simon murmurs into my ear, his voice vibrating against my head.

I shake my head, "Of legends, why would I be?"

Simon laughs, "You're body is contradicting you," he points out lightly.

I realize I'm shivering, "I'm cold," I argue. As I say it, I realize it's not a lie. The air around me has gotten considerably colder ever since we entered the Land of Masks, and my shirt is pretty thin.

"Well, darling, it's going to get a lot colder," Simon's voice has a dark tone to it, and for a moment I consider trying to jump off of his horse and run away. It wouldn't work, though, his reflexes are fast, and so is his horse.

Still, the idea is becoming more and more appealing to me. I look behind myself, but Simon's shoulder is in the way of me actually seeing anything. He nudges me with it, turning my head forward again.

I wait, biding my time. It's a stupid idea, you've literally just been thinking how stupid it is and now here you are, about to do it! Dear brain, please let me know when you finally get smarter.
