TW- descriptive gore, pain, panic, porcelain masks

Technoblade 1st person P.O.V

I stride purposefully into the dining hall, stopping at the entrance. "Have you found her?"

Father looks up, clear distress painted on his face. Lately, he hasn't been able to pull it together. After Alaynia was kidnapped, he seemed to deflate. He dumped every responsibility on my older brother with no warning, leaving Wilbur scrambling to keep the kingdom strong.

Honestly, I don't blame him. I can't really, because Alaynia was the light of the entire castle. But I can't worry about emotions right now, I have a duty; get Laina back.

"No word," Tommy is sitting at the table in front of a plate of his favorite breakfast, but he looks like he's gonna puke.

"I'm going to revise that," my intellectual older brother comes into the room behind me. "I've just recieved word and they believe to have located the princess."

"I'm not going to let her have the throne," Philza speaks up, surprising all of us. He's barely said a word these past few days, and we're all a bit taken aback by what comes out of his mouth.

"Sh-she was in line for the throne?" Wilbur seems confused.

"Yes, she was. It... it was what your mother wanted, her last wish," the king looks distraught.

"Oh," Wilbur's a bit crestfallen, I can hear it in his voice.

"She's not anymore, it's too dangerous. You'll inherit it, Wilbur. I need to keep her safe, I need to keep her safe," Philza sounds more decided than usual, but his tone fades to a mutter at the end.

Tommy looks scared, and Wilbur is concerned. But my mind is still focused on Wil's pervious words, "Wilbur, where is she?"

"The Land of Masks."

My expression changes drastically, going from hopeful to horrified in less than a second. Without another word, I leave the room to retrieve my axe and a bone mask.

Alaina's P.O.V

I pace back and forth in the cell the Mask People dropped me in. It's surprisingly warm and bright in here, making it easier not to think of the hundreds of pounds of rock overhead that could fall any minute.

I'm really regretting showing my fears to Dream earlier. He now knows what will scare me, and I'm certain he'll use it to his advantage. As far as I've been able to figure out, the legend of Masks is real. And accoriding to Dream, they really are biding their time to detroy the Winged Empire. That is something that I certainly can't allow, and I'll do everything in my power to stop.

But why did the tall guy say that I was going to be the destroyer of my own kingdom? I would never do so willingly, he clearly knows that. Are they somehow going to find a way to blame it on me? That's a scary thought, because I know the people will never trust me again. Even if the theory proves to be untrue, they will always have a doubt in their minds that they're safe. I could never live with that.

The most possible scenario is the scariest, because that's the one where I actually want to stay here. There's a possibility that I might be ransomed for the kingdom.

On this scenario, I'm hoping that my family will be smart enough to say no. Yet, I'm also worried that Philza won't be able to handle it. After the death of Mother, he had to pull himself together because Wilbur and I were too young to run the kingdom. So, he kept up a blank face and only grieved inside.

But now, Wilbur is old enough to handle things with the kingdom. I can't deny that I have my doubts about him running the place, because I know he can get chaotic. Hopefully, he'll be able to pull it together at least until I can get back. If I don't get back... then I guess Techno will have to step up.

Creaaaaak...

The sound startles me from my thoughts, making me jump slightly. And then, the lights go off.

I look around frantically, straining my eyes in the dark as I try to make out the door. Panic rushes through me when all I take in is a stuffy, overwhelming blackness. I don't want to cry out, or make any noise for that matter. Noise is scary to me, noise means someone could find me.

Before I know it, I'm curled up into a ball on the floor. Preferably, I'd have my back to the wall. But I don't want to risk walking into anything, so I'll just wait here patiently until the lights go back on. Probably, it's a way for the Masked People to intimidate me. So I'm not going to let them do that.

Sure enough, the tell-tale sound of a door closing makes me sit up. I remember the sound of the door opening, and realize that I'm not alone. A flash of something white makes me back towards the wall, still sitting.

The sound of something being unsheathed makes me jump up and curl my hands into fists. I quickly find the gleam of a large axe. A glint of light reflects on the person's face slightly as they turn the weapon, and I catch a glimpse of a shiny white porcelain mask painted with big blue eyes, rosy cheeks, and a cheerfully menacing smile.

I back up, hands lifting slightly away and back from my sides as I spread my fingers apart wide. Clearly, this person is here to kill me. If they had just wanted to hurt me, they wouldn't have done it in a place where I could have easily been accidentally killed.

I take another step back, and my fingers brush against the wall. I know my fear is displayed on my face, but I can't really help it at that moment. I mean, I am about to die.

Hey guys! Super sorry it took so long to update, I've gotten SUPER busy! Everybody please enjoy the chapter and have a great day!
