not so bad friend after all

Driving back to tell Alex that we were breaking up was going to be hard but it had to be done, I heard a little blinking noise, signalling that I was almost out of petrol in the car.

“Shit!” I muttered under my breath as I pulled into the nearest petrol station.

I put the pump into the car, filled it up to brim the quickest I possibly could and paid in the shop. But on my way out I heard a faint noise of crying in the car that had pulled up next to me. I didn’t recognise it as one that I’d seen before.

I went round to the driver’s side and peered into the windows but they were blacked out through and through. I tapped on the window with my hand and waited for a response.

“Hello, are you okay?” I asked.

“Go away!” I heard from the other side of the window.

“Are you sure? You don’t sound good,” I asked again.

“I said leave me alone,” and now I recognised that voice.

“Ella?” I said as the window rolled down and she had black streaks running down her face from where she had been crying her eyes out.

“What,” she snapped as she was trying to clear her face of any obvious blemishes.

“Never mind,” I turned on my heal to walk away as she rolled up her tinted window, but a little voice in my head told me to go and check on her again. I walked round to the passenger side of her door and swung it open, getting into the seat next to her.

“What are you doing?! Get out of my car!” she shrieked. I just rolled my eyes at her remark and carried on the sit there.

“I’m in a good mood today, so, what’s wrong?”

“Why are you being nice to me? I’ve never been nice to you...” she trailed off.

“Just because you’re a bitch to me doesn’t mean that I have to be a total bitch to you too,” I replied.

“Well, where do I start?” she flung her head back in frustration.

“From the beginning I guess,” I guessed.

“My friend’s left me, I have no social life, I considered to be a slut, no guy will go near me and to top it all off my root appointment got cancelled!” she revealed.

“It’ll be okay,” I said as I awkwardly patted her on the back.

“No it won’t, and I’ve not been nice to you and I bet you don’t even know the reason,”

“No actually I don’t but you can continue onto why you do hate me so much,”

“I don’t hate you, but I’m jealous,” she said.

“Excuse me?”

“Yep, I have always been jealous of you Jessie. Your family life, your luck with guys, your social status and your amazing friends. I was jealous of it all, no hate there,”

“Wow, that was some revelation there,” I responded.

“I know,”

“But, and I wouldn’t normally suggest this, but we can start over, and maybe even become friends. If you want to,”

“Oh my gosh, thank-you! I’d love that,” she said as she leaned over to give me a big hug.

“Well I’ll see you around, friend” I said as I got out of the car and walked back over to my own.
