GOD'S FAVOURITE.
"I'll be spending a few days away from home due to work," Soichiro announced to his family, the latter nodding as they continued to eat breakfast. It was hardly abnormal for the Detective to go on one of his escapades and the family had gotten used to his absence over the years, especially with the promotion.
Despite the days passing since the incident of Y/N's venture out, tensions still ran thick within the home.
Sachiko and Sayu would mostly glare at her in expectation for an apology that never arrived and Soichiro had been the one avoiding her most, the only person from the Yagami household she held full conversations with over the passing time was Light, who remained nonchalant about the ordeal despite his Mother breathing down his neck.
If anything he was rather impressed by her little speech and none of its contents were false in the claims about his family, even of himself. It was a strange dynamic between Y/N and the brunette, most days they'd just observe the other under the impression neither was aware, Light especially taking an interest as she skimmed through some of his old textbooks, even offering to read it to her as they settled down at night. For Y/N's part, she had been solely focused on the book he always seemed to scribble in, of course, he had just brushed off her curiosity with the excuse that it consisted of study notes but neither bought the other's charade.
"Dear, I won't be able to have Y/N accompany me to the supermarket today." Sachiko hummed as she cleared the plates, his shoulders slumping in defeat. It's not as if he hadn't expected it, their arguments about her since that night were ongoing. "Me and Sayu are going out for a late lunch after some shopping." She attempted a lazy explanation which translated to neither wanting the girl walking around with them. "You're okay with that, right? I just think it's important to bond with Sayu with the summer vacation coming to an end."
"Does that mean I can go to Hatori for the day?" Y/N spoke, Sachiko's hands clenching around the plate as if her very voice was a bother. It's not as if the teen wanted to spend her time with him and the offer was like offering a starving man mush to eat...Still, it was the better-presented option than being around strangers. "He said he doesn't mind if you need someone to watch over me, Remember?"
"She wasn't talking to you." Sayu bit, the ridiculous retort forcing Light to hold his tongue. Why did it bother him so much? The pang in his chest reappeared every time his sibling spoke ill of the girl munching toast across from him.
"And nobody was talking to you." She murmured under her breath, biting onto the last bit of buttery bread before scurrying towards the doorway to slip on her shoes. "I can make my way there."
"What was the first part!?" The tween huffed, a small 'hmph' following her sentence as she snapped her neck towards the doorway. Considering the incident and Y/N's outburst meant Sayu had free reign for her jabs, she had been especially picky towards her. "Do you ever give it a rest!?"
"Hold it." Soichiro sighed as he stood up, lightly ushering Y/N back into her chair and placing his hand on her head as if ordering her to stay put. He had no right and her initial answer was correct. Per the rules of release from the hospital was that if nobody could watch Y/N she was to be with Hatori, either way, one or the other needed to be by her side...And yet it was his gut that told him to make that the last option on the scale. "There is someone that can take you today. Light...You don't have any plans besides your entrance exam, am I correct? Just have her take the test alongside you, it'll be scrapped by the end of the day."
"I can't take her with me." He argued, not that the offer of having her by his side throughout his day wasn't enticing to him. "Dad? You are aware that she can't rea-Ah!"
