GOD'S FAVOURITE.

Standing idly by in the Hinohara village with a foldable map spread out across the marble floor Y/N sat on her knees, completely puzzled as she attempted to read what seemed like random scribbles with lines going every which way. It could've been a children's work of art and she would not understand how to differentiate between the two.Despite how ridiculous she felt using the sheet of paper in her hometown it had been argued over for hours until the task force agreed to allow her to visit this place with the proper equipment.
However, just because she had travelled individually, did not mean she was visiting as one.
L had done nothing but sit by her side and gawk at her appearance, ever so often trailing his ebony-coloured eyes between her neck and the map. Not that he had decided to inform her she was holding said map upside down.
As her frustration grew from her failed attempt at navigation he had even worked up the Gaul to trail one finger across the lovebite under her chin, tipping his head to the side when she jumped away and onto the other side of the bench.
Rolling up the useless sheet of doodles she slapped it across the top of his head multiple times. "Do. You. Mind!?" She snapped, slamming it into his chest with one final blow. "What's gotten you so interested!?"
"Nothing." He murmured, his tone softer than the swift breeze of the Autumn air passing them. He always looked at her with such a wonderous expression, as if the things he wanted to confess were never the words that ended up leaving his mouth. A part of him wished she would push to know. "If you're spending your time with a partner, you should inform Matsuda, he spent the night searching for you."
Guilt sunk into her chest like a weight, she had not contacted Touta once since yesterday's events out of her shame and his hundreds of messages and calls remain unanswered. After spending the night with Mello and Matt she had implored stubbornly that they let her change in their hotel and having no other clothes on her, she had opted to steal there's. The only reason her guardian had fallen asleep for the day came from the fact Soichiro had assured him after their brief morning meeting at the base that she wouldn't be on this venture alone... Even with the knowledge, he continued to send a message ever so often. All she could reply with was a brief "Okay."
During the Autumn, her village experienced a period of prosperity and popularity, which had an unspoken reason. The area was crowded with tourists, and orders for fabrics, organic fruits, vegetables, and fish piled in. The scenery was awe-inspiring, and many people told stories of its divine beauty. However, there was an old children's tale that floated around her youth claiming that the fields and sky had received a devout blessing from a god. This story was proven correct as the crops continued to thrive despite the damp and cold weather. The wheat was tight, with its golden hues rivalling the sun itself at times. Blooming flowers and flourishing trees circled the area, and the greenery produced dazzling petals and bronzed leaves. The abundance of rolling hills went wild with its meadows, and the large pond used for washing laundry in the summer rested peacefully, hosting several kittens that drank from it ever so often. It was truly a sight to behold, and many argued that the human eye didn't deserve to witness such radiance.
The season was brief, yet the trees no longer felt like impenetrable barriers. The stone bridge leading towards the village was no longer a daunting obstacle that Y/N couldn't overcome. Even the once arduous forest path to her home now felt like a pleasant stroll. This was the only time of year when her home didn't feel like a prison. Although returning under current circumstances wasn't anyone's idea of a fun activity, the comfort of seeing a view she had long forgotten couldn't be denied. The nostalgia of it all both punished and rewarded her, helping her cope with her situation while wandering, struggling to make sense of the absurdly labelled present. They eventually sat down on a hill, taking a moment to appreciate the scenery.
