GOD'S FAVOURITE

The schedule of the evening in the Yagami household has been repetitive for the past few weeks. Everyone would return home from the professions to sit and chat over a meal Sachiko had spent her time concocting before each returned to their activities and took turns to the bath.

It was a pattern, a routine every member followed for the evening and one that Y/N had begun to embrace before tonight, it's not as if she expected to waltz through the doors and expose his wife's infidelity for it to be brushed off. What came as a shock however was the presence of everyone with the absence of Light bundled into the living room together, for whatever reason Hatori had seemingly brought himself over with some plan and he sat silently beside Sachiko who practically gnawed at her bottom lip with such vigor she feared it would drop off.

"Y/N!" Soichiro shrieked, his toothy warm smile being replaced with a horrified frown at her appearance, the Detective quickly raced over and sunk his knees to examine her wounds but she only backed away from him. "What happened!? Are you okay!? Did you two know anything about this!?" He turned to the girls.

Outlandish as it was that had infuriated Sachiko the most. At first, she had been under the assumption they had only taken in the teen to soothe her husband's devils...But his eyes gleamed with a kind of concern she hadn't seen in years, he wasn't even touching Y/N and yet he was acting so gentle, so calm as if dealing with a feral kitten and he shuffled back the minute she appeared uncomfortable.

How pathetic does someone have to be to grow jealous of a child? Considering what she had done she didn't even deserve him but Sachiko Yagami was selfish. She wanted it all, the husband, the house, the money, and her children, she wanted the envy of the single mothers in the neighborhood who would glare when she strutted by with designer brands in hand and she desired the lust of the many work husband's with there so called innocent glances when she'd tend to the rosebushes and bend over just a tad too much. And was it so wrong of her to want the front of the perfect family? Was it not something she was entitled to?

But entitlement was a defense that would always wear thin no matter who used it, Entitlement was the short straw that would barely hold up in the long run of things, it was an excuse. A petty, ridiculous excuse to think she was owed things.

"It's nothing," Y/N stated wordlessly, slapping away the hand that reached out to her in order of trading glances with Hatori who looked oh-so smug in his position. "A bad run-in at the supermarket, Sayu helped me home."

"Supermarket?" Sachiko perked up with her tone as condescending as ever, her words were jittery and unsure but a pointed look from her therapist seemed to set the woman back. "But you weren't with Sayu today, Dear. I sent her to the supermarket but you were out of the house before I came to wake you."

"Is this true?" Soichiro raised a brow between his wife and Y/N, from the shock in his voice he was playing into things perfectly. "You're not supposed to be out alone, I'm supposed to know your whereabouts at all times!" He scolded the girl, glancing at her bruising. "This is exactly why you can't be out alone, it's not safe not to mention it's court-appointed...Did you do this? Surely there's some sort of misunderstanding."

"I went to the market with Sayu." Y/N clarified, everyone but that man felt like a puppet in his scheme, he was enjoying every minute to watch her fight a losing battle. "I'm sure she can confirm if you need reassurance, Detective."

If it had not been a glare Y/N received from her own mother one too many times then she would've missed the poison Sachiko shot into her daughter, the girl could barely lift her head to meet it.

For the first time in a, while the twelve-year-old was quiet, her hands glued to her lap and lip quivering, she didn't want to agree or take part in this, she didn't want to do anything but leave her former target be and focus on her own life.
