GOD'S FAVOURITE

YEARS AGO.

"Daddy!" The small girl called out amongst the field of dried wheat and flowers, small feet causing pitter patter across the sticky soil as she raced towards the small set up he had organized for them, with wild hair and a ruined dress in sight she simply dropped onto the blanket with a small huff. "Papa look!"

There were both good and bad fortunes that came with living in the countryside, for example, the constant peace and breathtaking scenery never failed to warm even the coldest heart and there was something so satisfying about being a part of the miniature community, with the nearest village being miles away it was a rare sight to see someone wandering near the forest, most of the time that's where the Seven-year-old resided except Sundays.

Sundays were the day everyone would come out to this field, elders washing their clothing in the pond or cleaning their rice, farmers planting new crops or picking fresh fruit and vegetables for the local markets, and simply just families sitting around the area, children playing and racing around while their parents put out picnics or dinners to feast upon. But rewarding as the peace was, there came a time when the constant silence of country life could be suffocating if one didn't ever grow accustomed to living there.

Arisa knew all too well his daughter enjoyed the rare Sunday they would make the trip outside their home, it was those precious hours that finally allowed her to see other children her age or truly socialize with people that weren't him. Of course, there was Kimiko but she hardly enjoyed giving up her city-bound lifestyle, increasingly distancing herself away from both her husband and child as the months went on and falling into a routine of chaos, heck, she couldn't even drag herself out of bed today on account for being an alcohol dizzying mess, her head being buried in the toilet as if it wasn't snoozing the day away just to leave for her nightly routine later...Not that he had a problem with her ever-growing absence though.

It was...A rare luxury so to say that he allowed both of them and annoying as the ravenette found it conversing with everyone in proximity to exchange ridiculous pleasantries, it all seemed worth it when his emerald eyes downturned to look at the girl pulling at his fingertips, a toothy carefree grin stuck onto her face that had refused to remove itself since they had arrived. "You got your dress all dirty, Honey." He hummed, bending down to flick her muddied nose which scrunched up.

"Close your eyes! And no peeking, kay?" She giggled happily, practically jumping on the spot in excitement and hopping from one foot to the other as if hiding stacks of gold to gift him. "Open them!"

"They're beautiful." Arisa cooed, peeling away the bouquet of wildflowers and wisps from her hand and twirling a daisy between his thumb. "But I think a beautiful plant should be worn by an even more beautiful girl." He teased, tucking the petals behind her ear. "There."

"It tickles..." The girl smiled upwards with glee, god he loved her smile, pure serotonin and innocence bundling together with childish curiosity. "Look how fast I can spin!" She cheered proudly, racing around his stature.

He never understood where she got her sunny persona from, it could never be from him and not Kimiko. Both of them were jagged drones in a way, looking down at the teens of today who glared back as they would've at the same age...What a funny thing time is. "Come on, Sweetheart, you must feel tired." Of course, she rapidly shook her head, bouncing still as he held her in his arms, small legs kicking back and forth from the side. "Should we go out for dinner as a nice change?"

"Can I invite Shota!!!?" She squealed at the idea. While an older boy who she only got to play with on Sunday when his family would come to play a game of shogi, the brunette had still proven himself to be just as great as a friend to her, the duo often exploring around the field or cloud-watching as she rambled away at him. "Please! Please! Please! He was gonna tell me about how he flew in an air balloon!"
