The fields were always more peaceful during Autumn time, perhaps because most of it was spent by the local farmers settling down for Winter and with harvesting season gone awry there was nothing much to do until the next one but wait and brush off the tangerine leaves wherever they may fall.
While the grass was crisper and the air increasingly thicker there had been no less of a turnout, just one consisting of a younger age group who'd spend their time jumping into the piles of leaves piled together or running around carefree with their cheeks rosy and smiles gleaming.
Today for example children ran rampant and filled the air with cheerful giggles with a group of some of the elder workers gathered around their respective inventories, most of them consisted of vegetables and potatoes though the current batches had bruised or had multiple teeth marks across them and along with the footprints in the mud, the preparator had caused an uproar among the men.
Slamming his spade down as one of them inspected a raw tomato his expression read infuriated. "Those damm Foxes have been sticking their noses into my crops again!" He grumbled, tossing it away into his barrels. "How the hell am I supposed to plant if this damm tarp doesn't do its job!?"
"If you'd have used repellent like me you wouldn't be having this problem." One boasted, aged hands cupping the potato in his hands and showing it off as if it was a prized trophy or beloved possession. "I'd be happy to give you some tips." He cackled.
"Shut it. Last I recalled your last batch wasn't in such top shape." Another chimed in, rolling his eyes as he continued to pay attention to his stock while the other's voices faded into the background.
"How dare you!? That's so rude! You know I was facing an ant problem." He fumed, a frown tugging at his lips. "Tch. Oi, Nagasaki!" He called. "Ever considered that you're just not as young as you ought to be for this anymore?"
"I've been tending to this field since before your type came along." The seventy-something snipped back. "Go back to watching cartoons, Boy."
"Say it to my face, old man!"
And so the three continued arguing for no apparent reason at all, though it wasn't as if this was uncommon for them or even those spending their time relaxing.
Oblivious as she may have been to the arguing the girl watched with nothing short of the brightest glimmer located in her eye. "Saki!!!" Her enthusiasm cut through their bickering in a slice as she attached herself to hugging his leg. "I missed you!"
"That his grandkid?" One of the men murmured, the other two taken aback by the sudden interruption. "Well fuck, thought the old geezer was unmarried."
A smile tugged on his lips as he watched the two. Bitter as the old man could be and continued to act she never stopped looking up to him with such adoration, eagerly tugging at his shirt to explain agriculture more. "
Nah, that's Y/N. Arisa's kid." He sighed softly. "She comes here every Tuesday just to watch either him or the crops, no idea why. She's only Seven so watch your language if she ever comes over."
"Go away," Nagasaki grumbled as he bent down to pick out twigs and leaves from the damp soil though she only continued to flick at his straw hat. "Look Kid go play with the other brats, you creep me out."
"I wanna see if my Tomato grew!!" She grinned, a pout forming on her lips as he softly pushed her away by the head. Halting for a second a mischievous smirk grew across her face before she jumped on his back. "Please! Show me! Show me! Show me! I promise to go after! Pinkie swear even!"
