After a few days of mourning in the castle, Kinsmen came over to discuss kinship and other related matters.
They sat at the round table with Amira in the centre. She crossed her legs and began,"As you all know, my son, the former King is dead and our kingdom has no ruler, which is highly unacceptable. " She coughed and said,
"What do you people think should happen next?"
They discussed silently between themselves
"Madam Amira, we highly respect your decision, but your other son is not dead..." one of them replied. "Alfred can be our next King " Alfred overheard them while he was passing by, his face beamed with joy when he heard this.
"What other choice do they have," he thought to himself. Sofia joined them in the living room and sat down far away as possible to listen to their conversation.
"Fine then, that's our only option, by the way, " amira replied.
"Also..." a man said getting up. "...Queen Sofia has to leave the castle..." This statement left the whole family stunned. Sofia got up on her feet and screamed
"What!" Her voice caused more people to come downstairs including the children. The men stood and faced her
"What does that mean?!" She screamed again. Everyone got up and turned to her Amira faced her and yelled"Stop creating a scene"
No one could believe their ears, was amira being serious. Sofia walked towards amira and said, "My husband just died and now you want to send me away!" Tears gathered below her eyelid.
The kinsmen interrupted her "It's a tradition, ma "
"Silence! I'm still your queen " she snapped. They bowed their heads in fear of the new Sofia, they have never seen before. Alfred clapped his hands and replied her "I'm afraid, not anymore. Your husband is dead now, so you no longer belong here". He turned to his mom and began manipulating her "Mum, the other day, she brought in bedehouse attendants and behaved rudely to you, I don't know what she thinks of herself? She's undermining your authority already"
That was one thing Amira despised, he continued "Look, how she's screaming, mother, so disrespectful" Sofia noticed what he was trying to do, she bent and pleaded with amira "Please mum...." Amira kicked her away "Who is your mum? my son is now dead so I am no longer your mom!" Alfred sighed relief and stepped back and watched his hard work.
"My son is right! the other day, you behaved rudely to me and took my son's body away. Now you'll pay for it " She called for the guards. Sofia started trembling with fear, everyone was scared for Sofia. The guards rushed and answered Amira
"Take her bags and throw it out!" She pointed at Sofia. Sofia's world started spinning, she couldn't believe her ears. She cried and begged her while holding her feet. Amira wasn't listening, she pushed her instead Sofia fell hard and hit the floor.
"Nooooooooooooo!" Rudev screamed. She watched from the stairs, ran towards amira and pushed amira on the floor."You have no right to push her, dad wouldn't like it !" rudev said. Amira was helped up, she was in pain.
"Guards! get rudev's bags too" she muttered while holding onto her back "They are both leaving today ". This drama was too much for the family, Alfred was just enjoying the whole show. Rudev helped her mum up then turned to amira
"If you think I'm leaving his house then you're wrong about that," she said with so much confidence. People always knew rudev was courageous so it wasn't new. Amira was very disgusted"What kind of child is this?" she tisked.
"Hurry and take these two away from here!" No one dared interfere even when they wanted to.
"You'll only drag me out of here! " rudev flipped her hair boldly. At this point amira had had enough, she pulled rudev's hair. Rudev screamed in pain
"I'll teach you a lesson," amira said while pulling her out. Rudev struggled but was no match. Sofia screamed "Enough!"
The ambience changed from noisy to calm, she spoke quietly "I'll leave" Everyone excluding Alfred and Amira felt dismal. "Good" amira replied.
"But rudev isn't coming with me " she continued.
"Mom?" rudev muttered
"That's not possible..." Sofia interrupted amira saying"Rudev is a child of her grandfather, she's not bearing her father's name. And as far as I'm concerned, this is his house so she'll stay." The kinsmen discussed amongst themselves, she has a point.
Amira didn't know what to say so she agreed, she let rudev go. Rudev ran and hugged her mom, it was so cute"What are you doing ?" rudev begged her.
It was hard for the both of them"You want to leave me in this house alone. I have no one else " rudev cringed, Sofia bent down and said"I trust you, you'll find a way. "
"I'm just a child, why is everyone saying that !" rudev screamed. Rudev tried hard to cry but unfortunately, no tears left her eyes.
Sofia hugged her so tightly and sobbed, Amira couldn't stand it. The guards separated the both of them but it was a battle for the fittest. Their hands let go slowly, rudev screamed quietly. Her world was falling apart and she could do nothing about it. She was all alone amid her enemies, who did she have?
Rudev stood in front of the door watching her mum leave. She hoped it was all a dream but nothing like that happened.
The door was shut in her face. She gasped in shock, she looked tired and distressed.
"Finally, she's gone, whosoever tries to defy me will taste my wrath" amira dusted her hands and walked upstairs.
"Wait!" rudev shouted.
Everyone faced her, they were exhausted with all that took place, what could rudev be up to now?
Rudev walked towards amira and pointed her fingers"It is you, that kicked my mum out today! Mark my words, you would welcome her back!" Such audacity, rage in her eyes. She ran upstairs leaving them gawking. Alfred didn't feel bothered at all. all he ever wanted was falling into place, then he said"That child is bluffing, what can she possibly do?" he began manipulating amira again"I'll put her in her place once I'm the king and I'll find the person who killed Ephraim"
Amira nodded and replied"Tomorrow I'll make you King ".
Alfred's eyes widened, he was pleased with his news.
