“Who’s the newbie?”

I turned and my heart skipped a beat. My body quickly gave a single hot flash.  I was staring at the most gorgeous guy I had ever laid eyes on. He was tall, dark, and handsome. The whole package. His eyes were smoldering right through my soul. They were such a pretty blue/gray. I died and went to heaven.

“Don’t be rude, Damon. This is Noelle.” Elena leaned down and whispered in my ear, “He’s an ass.”

“I heard that,” he said straightening his suit jacket, raising an eyebrow. Which by the way, I noticed Stefan and Damon both had black suits on that made them look dashing. Damon’s voice made my knees go week and the looks he were giving made me want to drop right there. He held out his hand to me, “My apologies.” I gathered two things right away: he was a sarcastic smartass, and a ladies man.

“You shouldn’t be so rude, Damon,” Matt suggested. Oh crap! I forgot about Matt!

“I was apologizing for her date.” He eyed Matt. This was grand.

“Let’s cut the fighting, gentlemen. We have music to dance too.” Stefan was a talker…and a looker. All these men were attractive!

Damon “hymphed” and walked away. Stefan offered Elena his hand and she took it. Matt turned to me. “Would you like to dance?” It was a slow song.

I hesitated before saying, “Uhm, sure.” We locked arms and he led me to the dance area. This was really amazing. Vincennes never had stuff like this. And such nice people! And good looking. Hah.

Dancing was a little awkward because we didn’t really know each other, but that’s what also made it exciting. “This is so much different than where I used to live,” I said in wonder.

Matt beamed. “I’m really glad I was your waiter last night.”

Looking down, I smiled from ear to ear. “Me too.” When I looked back up I saw Damon talking to Stefan and Elena while they were trying to dance. Suddenly they all glanced at me and my eyes darted away, becoming very nervous. I heard Elena say “Damon don’t!” before I knew it, he was striding up to us. I looked at him (damn). In that look, which he does all the time I bet (he like, widens his eyes for a second, I don’t know its super hot) he asked, “Mind if I cut in?”

Matt looked at him then me in bewilderment. “Yeah, I kinda do mind.”

Damon looked very intently at Matt. “No, you don’t.”

“You’re right, I don’t.” Matt let go of me. What the heck? That was really weird. But I am now dancing with the smoking hottie.

“Sorry we didn’t get a better introduction. My names Damon Salvatore and Stefan is my brother. What’s yours?”

I nearly choked. “Noelle Summers.”

“Aah, and why did you come to Mystic Falls?”

“My dad’s job,” I said almost scared from the interrogation.

“Why are you really here?” he asked me and looked deep into my eyes. Wow, his eyes took total control over me. “I told you, my dad’s job.”

His eyes diverted from mine as he thought, “Oh.”

“Plus my parents just divorced so he wanted a fresh start.”

Damon now looked at me with sympathy. “Sorry for the interrogation, it’s just that sometimes we get some very strange people around here that aren’t here for the right reasons.”

“That’s weird.”

“Mhm, well nice chatting, but I need a drink.” He dropped my hand that he was holding, and the hand around my waist, turned and walked off. Ugh, what the hell? Dick!

I saw Elena hurry over to me with Stefan right behind. “Ugh, I’m so sorry, Noelle. I told you, Damon’s an ass.”

“It’s ok, I guess. What did he mean by strangers coming here for the wrong reasons?”

They both exchanged glances.

Stefan explained, “Sometimes people from other towns come here trying to put themselves on the Founders Council. It’s a matter of power.”

That’s confusing and weird. “Oh. Where did Matt go?”

Elena looked around. “Uhm, I don’t know. I’m sorry.”
