The next day at the park were the games and tournaments. Matt and I were on a team where we had to walk three legged. At one point Matt tripped and I toppled over him. We cracked up and finished last. I love being friends with him without him unintentionally making me feel guilty. I think he's finally come to realization and has moved past. The girls and I also pressured him into the pie eating contest where we all laughed as we cheered him on. He actually finished second which shocked us all. Elena and I were on a team where we tossed a blue water balloon back and forth without dropping it, moving back a step each time. We hollered "Whoo's!" when we came in first place and got a cute little ribbon. We cheered Jeremy on as he hopped his fastest against Matt and Stefan in the potato sack race. I was a bit bummed out Damon didn't show up. Stefan, Elena, Bonnie, Matt, Jeremy and I were standing around together chatting when Caroline approached, much to animated about something.
"Ok you guys, having fun?" She clapped her hands together. We all agreed. "Ok great! Now you all have a date for the ball tonight, right? Matt are we still on?" Matt nodded his head. My smile fell. Oh shit. Caroline could immediately tell. "Noelle, you do have a date for tonight, right? Don't tell me you forgot about it!"
"I'm sorry! I did forget about it!"
"Whaaaat?" She whined.
"Is anyone here free?" I looked around and no one said yes or nodded.
"Ugh, no!" Caroline droned. "Elena's obviously with Stefan, Bonnie and Jeremy are going, and I'm going with Matt! Matt-what about Tyler?"
Ugh, no, I thought.
Matt stuffed his hands into his pockets. "Uhm, no sorry, he's goin with Mallory."
Whoever "Mallory" is.
"Well can't you ask Damon?" Bonnie suggested wrapping her right hand around her left elbow.
"I don't want to ask him...I want to be asked!"
"Well you might not have a choice! You need to ask him pronto! Unless you can find a random around here, but it needs to be quick! Call him!"
Everyone was urging me with their facial expressions except Stefan who gently smiled at me. "Ugh!" I jerked my neck back. "Fine!" I walked over by a tree that was away from all the action. I was really nervous. I held the phone up to my ear and listened to his cell phone ring. It was on the third ring when he picked up.
"Hello?" He sang.
"Hey what's up?"
"Uhm, well, nothing much. Whaaat are you calling for?" He was being cute.
"Ha, ok, well, uhm, you know about the ball tonight?"
He hummed. "Yes...."
"Well, I completely forgot and I need a date."
"Okaaay, and how would you like me to help?" He was being difficult on purpose.
"Will you be my date?"
He paused before answering, "I'd love too! What color is your dress?"
OMG he'd love too? "Black and white with a blue ribbon in the middle."
"Hm. Ok. What time would you want me to pick you up for dinner?"
Omg! He's taking me to dinner to?! "Well the ball is at seven. What time is it now?"
"Three twenty five. How about I pick you up fifteen till six?"
"Ok! Uhm, yeah! I'm glad you said yes!"
"I'm glad you asked. See you later, date." And he hung up. I ran back over to my friends to announce that I now had a date!
"Yay!" Caroline bent her knees in a jumpy action. "Well we need to get ready people! Be at the Lockwood Mansion seven sharp!"
