I went home and took another shower. I curled my hair a little, put on shimmery silver eye shadow which made me look pretty. I put on my black wedges-I can't do heels-and sprayed some perfume on then waited nervously for Damon. I heard dad yell from downstairs that my date's here. Eek! I hurried downstairs only to freeze, gasping silently. Damon stood there in a black tux with a tie that matched very closely to my ribbon. He winked at me. "Ready for dinner, madam?" He held out his elbow for me to fit my arm around his. I smiled and asked dad to take a picture of us on my phone. It turned out really nice. "Bye dad, love ya!" I called as we trod out the door.
The evening air felt pleasant. "You look very dapper," I told Damon right before he opened the car door for me.
He bent in to talk to me before he closed the door. "Well thank you, miss. You look very lovely yourself." He closed the door and I "omg"ed out loud before he got in.
He took me to eat at a nice little café that was on the north side of town. We had a nice dinner and of course he paid. We were on our way to the ball when I said "I feel like this isn't really ball attire," and gestured to my dress.
Damon looked at me like I was full of non-sense. "You're fine."
More silence arose as he drove closer to the Lockwood Mansion. I was kind of nervous, as always. Just before he turned into the driveway I saw all the lights in Lockwood's yard and all the lit lanterns. Damon parked and as he unbuckled his seatbelt in a hurry and I took mine off slowly, I reached for the door handle but he stopped me with "Ah ah ah!" very quickly. He got out and strode to my side of the car, politely opening my door for me.
"Thank you!" I said as he even offered me a hand. I was wrestling butterflies in my stomach the whole time! He opened his arm and elbow up so I could walk arm in arm with him. From a distance I could see Stefan and Elena putting on big smiles as they chatted with Mrs. Lockwood. Elena had on a pretty indigo colored gown that was long and sleek. Damon muttered (which sounded to me like jealousy) "Well doesn't Stefan look dashing."
I flicked my eyes to him. "You look better."
He looked over at me and he smiled in appreciation. I smiled back.
Mrs. Lockwood had left Elena and Stefan and Elena smiled (looking slightly shocked-probably because of how gosh-darned handsome my man I MEAN Damon looked). We advanced towards them and Stefan stared at his brother as if they were having a showdown.
"You both look great," Elena said to me with the quickest peep at Damon.
"Thanks, you guys do too." My eyes darted from Elena to Stefan then up to Damon who was still eyeing Stefan. I turned my focus back to Elena but was distracted by a girl waving at me in the distance. It was Bonnie and Jeremy. Elena and I left our dates to go converse with Bonnie. "Hey's!" and "Oh my gosh you look good's!" were exchanged. Jeremy looked equally swell in a tux as the other men around here did. Bonnie was wearing a long red dress with a sweetheart neckline.
Hearing a loud "Eeeeh!" caused us all to turn our direction to Caroline scurrying over to us dragging Matt behind her. She, of course, was wearing a frilly pink dress that definitely matched her persona.
"You look really nice!" I said to Matt.
He blushed, scratching the back of his head nervously. "Thanks, you do too."
Damon appeared and asked me if I'd like to join him for some punch. I agreed even though he acted a bit off about it. We walked around back where the party was. "Are you ever going to get over him or what?"
Caught off guard, I asked "Who?"
"Matt. You two are always giving each other googly-eyes." Damon almost sounded disgusted.
I detected jealousy (YAY!) but didn't want to embarrass myself by calling him out. "No we don't," I protested innocently.
"But you still aren't over him, are you?" He prodded, wanting answers.
"Yes I am! I just feel bad still and sometimes I don't think he's over me."
"Aren't you full of yourself?" He said. I was assuming he was joking.
"Uh, no!" I was a tad irritated. "Why does it matter to you anyway? Are you jealous or something?" Whoops. I called him out.
"No..." he was quick to defend himself. "Just...curious."
That was the end of that charade. He made a cup of punch for us both. We watched people dance and Damon suggested, "Shall we?" He took me out to the dance floor and the fun began! He started pulling out these moves on me like twirling me and dipping me and it made me laugh. No twerking, no grinding, just old school classy dancing. I loved how he smiled at me.
Our-well, mostly my- friends showed up and danced around us. It was all very elegant. The slow songs (which there were a couple of) were romantic. It felt like we were dating when we danced. I think it seemed that way to other people too. I could perceive the looks of jealousy on other girls' faces as I danced with the hottest guy in the world. Geez, I was even jealous of myself.
I danced the night away and it was wonderful. Damon took me home and walked me to the door. I thanked him for going with me and paying for dinner. I told him I'd see him tomorrow and he told me goodnight. I couldn't go to sleep when all I could do was replay the night in my mind.
