It had been a little over a month that Matt and I had dated. But now, we are broken up.
Yep, that's right.
Things were good. They were always good. Great at the beginning but something seemed to happen slowly over time. It just wasn't meant to be for us I guess. I feel horrible. I hate hurting people that are good people.
Well, here's the thing. I had started to go over to the Salvatore's more since Elena was always there with Stefan and let's face it: the place is awesome. It's so huge and it contains Damon Salvatore.
Truth was, I was so drawn to Damon. His looks were enough to make my ankles weak, but I wanted to get to know him. I felt like I could see something in Damon that the others couldn't and I wanted to see if it was real or not. I had been seeing him at the house and at the grill and we had made small talk. He was so sarcastic and funny. He was rude and full of himself. He was pleasant and complimentary. He was something I needed more of.
Matt got jealous. I mean, who wouldn't? I understand though. Matt has always been in competition and he didn't want to be in it again.
When we ended it, we weren't mean to each other. We were compromising on letting it go. I had said to him, "Matt, maybe we should just be friends. You're such a great guy, but I just don't want you to be jealous and I don't want to hurt you. I mean, I have a crush on Damon. But I've always liked you too."
He had looked down. "Yeah, I get it. You're right. I just need to meet a girl who despises Damon. Or doesn't even know him. I just let it get to me and I probably shouldn't have. Maybe I'm the one who screwed things up."
That sort of stung, but I understood. We smiled and hugged, knowing we would remain friends, but the wound was fresh and it still throbbed.
