You laid on the table, bruises and blood and cut covered your body. You couldn't feel your legs. Your whole body felt light as you stared up at the dark ceiling with a single light illuminating the room with a pale glow. Your body ached in a new agony, worse than you had ever experienced in your time as a state alchemist. Your arms throbbed in pain, your legs were numb, your breathing felt difficult and heavy as pain ached whenever you inhaled. Joseph sat on a stool nearby, making notes in a leather bound book. He drummed his fingers upon the cover of the book, not paying you any attention. You could barely move not that you wanted to anymore. All you really wanted to do was fall asleep, but you were scared of what might happen if you allowed yourself to. It was hard to hear, but you could faintly hear the sound of battles far above the room you were in.
"When do you think Envy might arrive, (Y/N)?" Inquired Joseph. You glanced over, the best you could anyway without moving your neck. His eyes didn't leave the pages of his book. "About now, Mustang should be on his way down here. That'll make two of you then! Aren't you excited to have some company?" Joseph chuckled then continued. "Hawkeye? I pray those damn fools managed to get her. If she escapes then it could foil the entire plan. That's what did it in for the damn Fuhrer anyway."
You tried to speak, your voice weak and your throat dry as a desert. It came out muffled.
"Ah, right right! Mustang. You must be shocked I went against him? All it took was a little bit of a lie to incite his prejudiced rage against Envy and he was happy to help capture you. 'For your own safety!' ha!" Joseph laughed to himself. "It's amazing how foolish you all can be. It doesn't take much to have homunculi and humans against each other. Ah, and I'm sure the people are rooting for us now. Most people are too dumb to understand anything anyway."
You looked away from him. Suppressing the urge to cry, you felt tears brim your eyes anyway. Everything hurt. You wanted to believe Envy would come save you. That he wouldn't hold what happened with Joseph against you. That his jealous wouldn't win. Still, you couldn't help but start to doubt it.
The sound of clunking metal as the door came unlocked echoed through the chamber. In walked soldiers with Fuhrer Mustang, his hands bound far apart. He was forced down to some cage nearby and chained to it much like you had been chained to the table.
"(Y/N). I'm sorry." It was all he said before he, too, was muffled the way you were.
You could barely look at him, maybe you didn't even want to. It hurt to know he was here. It hurt as your hope for being rescued started to fade.
"Ah! Before you lot go! What happened to Hawkeye?" Joseph stared at the soldiers as they looked in between each of them.
"She managed to get away as the Fuhrer blocked us. He sacrificed himself to make sure that she escaped." Even though you weren't looking, you could easily imagine the expression on Joseph's face. He dismissed the soldiers, barely speaking. Once the door was locked again, you could hear Joseph breathing heavily.
"You bastard." Looking over, you saw Joseph kick Mustang right in the stomach. "No matter. If you think Hawkeye can save you, she can't. Most of the army is already on my side anyway. I'll be Fuhrer in no time and you? I'll see to it that you are executed where Hawkeye can see." Joseph stormed off towards the door in the back. He slammed it shut as he left, leaving you and Mustang stuck in silence.
...
Hours passed. By now, you had fallen asleep. With Joseph gone, you had no choice. It had been so long and still no one returned. It wasn't as if Mustang or you could speak to one another. In your sleep, you had heard voices. They barely processed in your brain and instead became a part of your dream. The voices sounded so familiar, but you couldn't understand anything they were saying.
"(Y/N)? Be okay."
"I am okay." You replied in your dream. You didn't understand why the surrounding flowers seemed so concerned with your safety. "I'm fine, see? I'm fine..." Suddenly, you felt as though you were flying. You laughed as you flew through the place. "This is so cool! Are you guys going to join me?!" You yelled down to the strange goblins stuck on earth. You flew through the place before you slammed into a hard wall. You rubbed your head and looked up to see a face contorted in rage. It stared down at you. One eye was purple, the other an even more unusual color. The face had a strange smile, one of hatred and anger but also a twisted pleasure.
"Did you hurt yourself?" The voice sounded like two in one and still so far away. "I like to hear you scream, you know~"
The world around you grew dark. You turned to fly away but it felt as though you were flying through a thick mud. Your body came to fell heavy and you fell back to earth. You screamed in agony as your back slammed down onto the tough rocks. Staring up, you see the large face laughing at you, mocking as you. Quickly, you got yo and ran away. No matter how hard or fast you ran, you felt as though that person only grew closer and closer. You were terrified and your body was exhausted. You felt as though you were going to pass out. With how tired you had become, you wondered how long it would be before you could run no further. That thing would catch you. It wasn't the face that scared you though. No matter where you ran, it watched from above. Instead it was something more sinister. A dark presence that seemed to change forms at will. You didn't even understand what it was. You couldn't picture it. But it was familiar. Every time you found yourself in this place, you ran and ran. It felt as though you could never get away. In a shopping mall, in a forest, in an endless maze, no matter where you were or where you hid, that thing followed you. It grew closer and closer. Fear filled your body as you ran and ran, hopping across platforms floating in water. The dark depths of the water terrified you. Although you didn't understand how you knew, you could just tell that if you had one misstep, you'd be dragged to the bottom. The thought pushed you to handle it carefully. Fear of being dragged down as the sunlight began to fade and the water filled your lungs and took your breath away.
Your body ached, but you had to press on. Everything hurt and soon you couldn't feel your feet. You wanted to wake up, to get away from this all-too-familiar place, but you couldn't force yourself. You had to press on. You made it to the otherwise of the deep lake and ran through the woods. That thing, you could feel it didn't even need to worry about the water. And it wasn't long before you came to a dead end. You turned to run to the side, but another wall seemed to appear. Again you turned and ran, your body feeling as though it were sinking, growing heavier with each step. Still, another wall blocked your path. They surrounded you, closing in. You curled up, shaking and beginning to cry. You couldn't run anymore. It was going to get you and the thought of it terrified you. This was it. The light of the sky became blocked out. You say in darkness as the walls closed in, strange shadowy things clawed in through the walls. It was about to grab you-
You opened your eyes, breathing hard and laying on your back. You looked up and saw a pair of golden eyes staring at you. Beautiful, golden eyes. You tried to speak, but found yourself still muffled.
"It's okay, we're getting you out." Ed said as he and Al worked to unchain you from your bonds. Looking over, you saw Izumi working to free Mustang. You were lifted up by Armstrong and carried off, your legs flopping about although you still barely had feeling in them and after that dream, they felt as if they were pulled down by cement. You looked around, crying softly was you were carried out of the room and far away. You wanted Envy. You just wanted Envy. Izumi helped Mustang walk as you all snuck away from the ominous chambers you had been held in. You suddenly felt sick and feint from all the movement as Armstrong carried you. You closed your eyes, slowly drifting back to sleep.
