The apartment door creaked open to reveal you standing in the doorway. The room was empty and still, everything remaining just as you had left it. Although it was the same apartment it felt tremendously different from before. The room once filled with life from you and Envy was quiet and dead. You slowly stepped into the room, setting your bags down and shutting the door. Without bothering to unpack, you went straight to your room and flopped onto your bed. You didn't feel like sleeping, but you also didn't feel like doing anything else. Tears began to form as memories of your fight with Envy forced their way to the front of your mind. You buried your face in your pillow and cried. It wasn't long before you passed out in your bed, exhausted from everything happening.
...
You awoke the next morning, bright and early. You got up begrudgingly and went to make yourself a bit of coffee and breakfast before heading out for work. You had no choice but to return to work instead of moping about all day depressed in your apartment room. You spent your morning working hard, ignoring your old work buddies and coworkers. Many gave you worried looks or tried to ask if you were okay, you barely spoke to them although you did provide a bit of truth by saying it was "just a bit of drama" and "nothing you couldn't handle." Once your lunch break arrived, you left to go eat alone at a diner. The bell to the diner rang when the door opened. You gazed up from your meal to see Alphonse standing there. His eyes met yours then he sat down across from you.
"Here you are, (Y/N)! I've been looking for you!" Al said.
You sighed then spoke, "Not to be rude, but I want to be alone."
"Just listen to me, okay? We're all worried for you. And..." His words trailed off.
"And?"
"And...Envy misses you, (Y/N). After he found out you left, he locked himself in your room back there. He's refused to come out. We all know he's really sorry for hurting you."
"Stubborn brat." You muttered. You rubbed your head and then said, "If he were sorry he'd be here right now, not you. I don't want to get some apology from you, Alphonse." You gave Al a look.
"(Y/N)..."
"Just leave me alone, Alphonse!!! I don't want to talk to you or him or ANYONE!!!" You angrily took out a tip and left it on the table before storming out, leaving Al alone. You continued to walk for a while before stopping in your tracks. Something hurt inside you, a strange feeling that you didn't want to acknowledge as tears welled up in your eyes, threatening to fall. Though before you could cry, two large men approached you, both wearing military uniforms.
"Miss (L/N)?" The first one asked, looking at you sternly.
"Y-Yes?" You squeaked out.
"We need you to come with us. It's urgent." You complied and went off with the two men towards the Central Command. Once inside, they take you to an interrogation room. You take your seat and wait before Falman enters the room. He sits across from you, gazing through some files in front of him. You shift uncomfortably waiting for him to speak.
"(Y/N)." He looks to you as he speaks, "With all these crimes and evidence pointing towards Envy, we would like to give you some extra protection. Mustang himself requests this. We think it would be best if you had some bodyguards or someone with you at all times." Your heart sank. "This would be for you own good."
"Envy isn't dangerous, Falman..." You attempted to say in a timid voice.
"Even if these crimes aren't being committed by him, we can't let you be affiliated with him or close to him just in case he may end up hurting you. (Y/N), Envy is still dangerous. We have to keep you safe and as long as he knows where you are, you're in danger."
"Falman." You look at him, serious as can be. "You're not just going to assign me body guards, are you?"
With a heavy sigh, Falman caves. "No, we want you to go into a full protection service. You'd be moved somewhere safe where Envy can't find you and be given multiple bodyguards or have an alchemist or bodyguard with you at all times, but (Y/N)-"
You stood up abruptly, knocking your chair back then yelled, "But what?! You want me to completely abandon everything so I can be babysat like I'm some child!!! I refuse to do this!!! Envy isn't dangerous and he would never hurt me!!!" You glared at him.
"You never know, (Y/N). All these killings and kidnappings point to him. And sometimes we don't know the person as well as we think he is. You know how dangerous Envy was in the past. He killed Maes Hughes. You can't trust him just because he's been acting good. This could all be a lie!!" Falman's words struck your heart as your glare turned into a face of shock. "I'm sorry, (Y/N)...but...that's the truth." You fixed your chair and took a seat once more. "Will you at least consider it?" You replied with a slight nod. "We'll check back in a couple days. Please try to lay low in case something happens."
"I will. I promise."
"Good, then...you're free to go. Men, escort her back to her apartment."
"I don't need it Falman."
"But Mustang does and I do too. (Y/N). We all need it."
You simply nodded then left with the guards following after you, to return home.
