~part thirteen~

[I advice you to read this chapter on Ao3, I'm having problems with updating it and here it's not exactly how I imagined it to be]

Summary
Armin has a date and Eren goes to see someone really important to him

He precariously took the handle in his palm and pushed, leaving a quiet creaking sound.

The room wasn't much bright, not just because of the rain still falling down the ground outside. He put the flowers next to the bed without taking his eyes away from them. They were just normal flowers he got from the flower shop, didn't even smell nice. Nothing like the roses he gave her the last time. He didn't know if this was more pitiful than coming empty handed anymore.

The white walls here made Eren feel sick in the stomach every time. The color was always screaming at his face, if that made sense. Wouldn't hurt if they put some paintings or at least a clock. Time here either stopped or passed too quickly.

"Aren't you excited to see me?" The faint voice pierced his chest like a needle and he finally lifted up his tired eyes.

"Of course I am. It's just.. " he looked down at his already clenched fists in shame. "Are you?"

She smiled, making her pale face to look at least a little better. Her long hair was carefully brushed and tied on one side. "How could I not be? I always feel better when I see my two perfect children."

Perfect definitely wasn't the word describing him best. He knew she knew. Why wasn't she yelling at him like a normal mother? It just made it all more upsetting.

"We got you something to eat, Mrs." Mikasa approached the white bed in the center of the room and handed over a small lunch box, with food still warm inside.

She took it gratefully. "Thank you so much. You know food in the hospital isn't too tasty." She said quieter like to keep it а secret and giggled. Mikasa just nodded and silently agreed.

Eren just stared our the window and listened to them. At the end he finally spoke. "Did the doctors say something new?"

Carla looked at him a little surprised, but shook her head. "Don't worry about it, dear. Tell me about yourself, how are things going? Have you heard from your father?"

"The bastard is almost never home. I doubt he's even being at work all the time." Eren spat out at the image if his father in his mind. He was right, they barely spoke now.

"I see." She calmly said. "I feel sorry for you two, taking care of yourselves all alone. I promise when I get better you wouldn't need to lift a finger" she smiled, but no one else did. If she gets better.

"Eren." She spoke again, making the boy turn his head. "I know what happened." His heart suddenly shrank. "You promised, Eren. You need to tell me why."
