Damien stared at the bathroom door, hands wringing together. One moment they were watching TV, the next (y/n) was having an anxiety attack next to him.
He ran his hands through his hair and let out a breath. He knew that it was partially his fault, even after such a... For lack of better words, eventful, evening, he had still pushed them with the wedding bit.
He heard the shower water running, but the sobs were becoming less and less frequent, as if peice by peice they were stringing themselves back together like some sort of stitched doll.
He heard the shower water shut off after he lost track of time and waited for (y/n) to come out of the bathroom. They exited in clean pajamas and damp hair. Looking exhausted, puffy eyed, but overall calmer.
"I'm sorry, but I'm not going. I'm not ready." they said softly but firmly, hands trembling.
"that's okay" Damien said gently, "I'm sorry if I pressured you into it."
"you didn't, I just don't think it's a good idea to start dating immediately after what happened. I'd like to start very fresh. As just friends, then maybe build our way back up." they shifted their weight onto their other leg, and stared at the ground.
"that's perfectly okay." Damien agreed, "and as your friend, please do what makes you comfy. I want you to take care of yourself." he said, leaning back on the couch. They were still the most beautiful person he had ever seen, and they were so kind and gentle. He would wait forever for them, even if it meant being just their friend until he died. It was worth it.
They sat on the couch next to him, and resumed their show.
The night went smoothly, and they feel into very comfortable conversation.
