You realized just how exhausted you were that week until you woke up at one in the afternoon.
You rolled over and put on your glasses and checked your phone.
A missed call from Damien and a text from Shayne.
You swiped open the notification.
------
S: Hey, Tia's not talking to me, do you know why?
You: Yeah, I kind of walked into their argument.
Damien and Tia used to date, I'm pretty sure they still like each other. They were really emotional.
----
You sent the text and sighed as you called Damien, fear knotting your stomach. The anxiety was short lived as the call went to voicemail, and you received a text from Shayne.
----
S: They did?
You: Yeah, they did, I told Tia to tell you but...
S: Yeah I understand.
You: How is your... wound ? Doing...
S: Hurts like hell, but better.
You: I'm glad you're better.
S: Me too.
You: Want to come over and hang out?
S: Yeah, yeah I'd like that. I can't drive though, medication says so.
You: I'll be there in a bit.
---
You sent the text and grabbed your keys, Shayne couldn't drink, but he never did much anyways.
Maybe you two would put on a show, relax, talk about the situation, or maybe this would go horribly horribly wrong.
You hoped it wasn't the latter.

You stopped outside Shayne's house, picked up your phone and called.
After a few rings he answered with an exasperated "Yeah?"

"I'm here." You said, confused.

You heard Tia yelling in the background and knew Shayne confronted her, you felt guilty.

"Yeah---" You heard him sigh and you knew he was probably rubbing his forehead right now, "Yeah I'll be right out."
He hung up.
You waited.

After about 10 minutes of scrolling through Twitter and responding to some fans, you heard the door slam shut and you looked up to see Shayne walking towards your car.
He opened the door, and got in.

" Careful closing it please." You warned, he nodded and shut the door gently.

You backed out, turned on the radio, and drove in the silence of music for  a bit.

"She said she still had feelings for him." He said finally, you could hear the hurt in his voice, you felt his pain in your heart.

"At least she'll admit it." You joked, thinking of Damien's denial, you wondered if it would be better if he would just admit it.

"Damien didn't?" He asked, his voice didn't shake but you knew he was close to crying.

"No." You said.

"He called you, didn't he?" Shayne asked, "and when you called back, he didn't answer?"

You spared him a quick and curious glance.

"I know because he did the same thing to me."

You felt your heart race at Shayne's admition.

"Don't worry, he'll call you." Shayne said, "Because he's already called Tia and spoke to her."

You nearly slammed on your breaks out of hurt and anger, but continued driving.

"What?" You asked, you tried not to let it get to you, but it did.
It got to you.

"When we were fighting," Shayne began, "Damien called Tia-- She inturrupted me to answer him." You heard his voice nearly break at the end.

"That's when you left." You murmured.

His silence told you that you were right.

"Maybe I should've stayed but--" He began.

"But you didn't want to." You finished.

"It's not fair to her, I interrupted her to take your call." He said, running his hands through his hair.

You just shrugged and quoted  "Nothings fair in love and war."

Damien called you a moment after you had gotten home.
You let it ring for a bit before answering.
"Damien?" You asked.
"Hey..." He started.
"What is it?" You asked.
The line was silent.
"Damien what is it?" You asked again.
"I'm sorry." He finished.
"What do you mean?" You asked quietly, voice scared, your heartbeat thumped in your chest, your blood rushing through your ears.

"I still love Tia." He said.

"No." You muttered.

"No?" You heard a practical biting laugh in his voice. You knew why, that's the very thing you demanded to know and now you were denying it.

Shayne looked at you.

"I love you too... though." He began.

"Or are you just hurting and want somebody who loves you?" You asked, your voice was now more than a whisper, it wasn't cold, it was sad and broken like the jagged edge of a glass mirror. Broken, a speck of blood where it had been shattered by the hand of the user.
It was wavering, you were sure Damien knew you hurt.

You wondered what you had gotten yourself into.

Damien hesitated.

It gave you the answer.

"So that's all?" You asked to his silence.

Your only answer was the beep of the phone that had just hung up on you.

You cried.

You sobbed, it wracked your body as you felt your heart break.

Had he used you?

Had he believed that he really loved you?

You felt Shayne's arms wrap around you, you pulled him closer and grasped at the cloth on his shirt.
Something, anything to steady you, to bring you back down to reality.

It was hard to breath and you wondered if it had ended... You didn't have the mind to ask Damien if that was a break up, or a bad fight.

Maybe it was both.

You wiped away your tears.

You tried to steady your breathing.

Shayne rubbed soothing circles into your back, you wondered why you had broken the promise to yourself to not cry over another stupid boy?

Shayne whispered in your ear.
"Ask him."

You nodded.

He hugged you for awhile longer.

You picked up the phone and called.

Damien answered.

"Is. It. Over." You demanded the question, teeth gritted, tears streaming down your face.

"Yes." He whispered, you heard his crying.

It only added to yours.

You hung up.

Shayne hugged you again.

"Stay." You whispered.

"Please." You begged.

"You didn't even have to ask." He said, softly.
