I was going to wait until I had a few chapters written but I simply could not! This story takes place 'basically' in present day (it'll span on a timeline) and is rated M for obvious reasons--if you've read my other stories, of course. lol. It's going to be a slow start, but hang on for the tension, bbys. It WILL come. As always--please let me know what you think and I hope you all will enjoy being on the ride for this one! As always, reach out to me here, AO3, or twitter! I use twitter to fangirl and post about updates coming up with my stories. All same username on all platforms :)

Oh, Monday. It was Emily's least favorite day and she dreaded going into work with every step she took down State Street in Downtown Boston. She had been working as a Staff Writer for the Boston Globe for the past six years and she loved her job, but showing up to it after a weekend of relaxation was always difficult for her. There simply just wasn't enough time in the two days to do anything she wanted to get done.

As Emily approached the glass front doors of her work building, it dawned on her that this wasn't an average Monday. Her friend Sue Gilbert was set to start working as an Articles Editor for the newspaper. Emily was able to score Sue an interview rather quickly and it wasn't long until they decided to hire her. She had plenty of experience as she had been working as an editor for the local Amherst, Massachusetts newspaper right after college and in the past couple of years had been working for the publishing office at Harvard.

The girls both lived in Boston—Emily since the start of college and Sue just for a couple of years now. They were only a year shy of being thirty and Emily had wondered where all the time went, honestly. They had been friends since they were both ten, just two little girls in Amherst trying to find a forever friend and that they did. Emily was single—very career driven, family oriented, and focused on herself and her goals in all aspects of her life. Sue was engaged to her long-time lover, James. They had been together for four years and recently got engaged—their wedding set to be late next Summer. Like Emily, Sue was also very career driven and focused on her goals—though not very family oriented like Emily had been, but she loved her family, nonetheless.

To say Emily was excited to have her best friend working with her would be an understatement. And even better is the fact that Sue was assigned to edit Emily's articles herself, so they'd be sharing a workspace together. Emily had been alone in her office for years now, and she never minded it since she truly enjoyed being alone. Having Sue set up shop in her office is also something she didn't seem to mind, though. It was a big office space, after all.

Emily stepped in the elevator and hit the button for the third floor where her office was located. It wasn't long until the doors dinged open and Emily walked out into the work space and towards her office down the hall. Her office was tucked away in the left back hallway, overlooking the streets of Boston outside the large windows. She used to be in one of the smaller offices on the second floor but with seniority in affect, she was able to get a larger office a couple of years back.

As she walked down the hall with her backpack hanging on one shoulder and a stack of papers in one hand and a coffee in the other, she greeted everyone she passed by with a 'Good morning' and proceeded until she reached her office. She placed her coffee down on the table outside of the office while she grabbed the key to unlock it—she always locked her office before she left work for the evening or if she was having an important meeting of some sort.

She opened the door and flicked the light on, grabbing her coffee before walking into her office completely. She put her backpack down next to her desk and her coffee and stack of papers on top of it. It wasn't very long until Sue arrived.
