Christmas had come and gone rather quickly, and New Year's Eve had approached just as quick. Like Thanksgiving, Emily went back to Amherst with her brother and sister to spend some time with their parents for the holidays. She had come back only just a few days ago as she was off of work until the second of January.
Sue, too, had gone back to Amherst for the holidays with James to visit her parents this time around. But Emily and Sue didn't get together while they were both there. In fact, being around James at this point was the last thing Emily wanted. She said she was going to be patient and wait for Sue to leave James but of course she was getting impatient quickly because she wanted Sue all to herself. The sight of James made her sick, to be quite honest. And the fact that she had to see them tonight at Austin and George's New Years Eve party was devastating to her. It was the last thing she wanted, really.
But Emily had a plan, as she always did, to get Sue jealous and she invited her friend Sarah to the New Years Eve party. Now, Sue said Emily can't date her, and technically—she's not. They're just friends and Emily invited her in a just friends kind of way. Emily knew it was going to get Sue pissed, but she wouldn't be able to do anything about it because she was with James, so she wasn't worrying too much. She knew she'd have to deal with the consequences later and she was prepared—she knew how to handle her girl.
Emily got ready in a suave outfit for the evening—she was wearing a navy blue suit that hugged her in all the right places. It was fitted and she wore a white blouse underneath it. And in pure Emily fashion, of course she paired the suit with a pair of boots but she made that work—always.
She was headed out the door of her apartment to go pick up Sarah from her place. They were going to take the train together to get to Austin and George's place. Sarah didn't live far from Emily, it was just shy of a fifteen minute walk. When she arrived, she texted Sarah that she was there and Sarah came down shortly after. Emily watched Sarah as she walked out of her apartment building. She couldn't lie—she did find Sarah cute and she looked very nice tonight in a red dress even though she couldn't see the entire dress because of her coat.
"You look great!" Emily said, smiling at her. "Ready to go then?"
Sarah nodded, "You do, too! Yes, let's go."
They both smiled at each other and walked to the train stop just up the road. When they arrived they only had to wait a few minutes until the train arrived to take them a few stops up to Austin and George's. They made small talk during the walk to the train and the train ride over to the boys' place—asking each other how their holiday's went and what they've been up to since the last time they saw each other. The train dinged and announced their stop: Haymarket.
"This is us." Emily said, standing up and Sarah did the same.
They walked out of the train together and only had to cross the street from the station to get to Austin and George's. They walked into the building and buzzed up to the apartment. It didn't take long until someone buzzed them in. As they walked up to the apartment, Emily smiled at Sarah.
"Everyone's really cool. You'll like them all." Emily said warmly, easing Sarah in to her crazy but amazing friend group.
"I'm looking forward to it! I had plans to get together at a friends place tonight but she's been really sick recently. I'm glad I could be a part of your plans, though." Sarah said, smiling.
They made it up to the apartment and Emily didn't even knock—she walked right in along side with Sarah and shut the door behind them. There was already quite the handful of people there. Austin and George's apartment wasn't huge by any means, so it definitely felt a bit more crowded than Emily's or Jane's place.
