As Everything Changes

Chapter 39

It's the day before competition, Friday. To say I'm nervous would be an understatement.

I've decided to spend the day, after school, with John. It's good to have more time with him. Even though I spend almost every day with him, I always have more fun when we are out.

I did have dance practice but the group was perfect after two tries and I did my solo first, nailing it on the first try. I was able to leave by 4:30.

It's around 5 p.m. when I get a knock on the door. I answer it and as I expect, John is standing there. he looks amazing as always with a bouquet of flowers in his hands. They are lilies, my favorite.

"Before I even ask, let me guess, is it a surprise?"

"But of course! Isn't it always?" he replies with a goofy grin.

I grin widely back at him. Somehow, I always manage to feel happier around him.

"Do you at least plan on buying me food? Haven't had breakfast yet and I'm starved!" I whine.

"Duh! I would never starve you. You're already skinny enough as it is," he jokes.

"Well I think we have stood in my doorway for long enough. Shall we go?" I ask.

He offers me his hand with a nod of his head. I gladly take it. He softly squeezes my hand and then leads me to his car.

"Oh yeah. I forgot to say, you look absolutely stunning my dear!" He says with a wink when we sit in the car.

I blush, even though he has complimented me before, many times before even. I look over my outfit its nothing special. just a plain navy blue tank top with a white lace pocket and white jean shorts with white sandals. To finish the look I have on a white hat and my makeup on naturally.

"You don't look to horrible yourself I guess," I wink, not forgetting to give him s once over as he drives.

"I can feel you checking me out Sel," he chuckles.

"Why would I check you out? That's disgusting!" I wrinkle my nose in fake disgust.

"Puh-lease! We all know you want a piece of this!"

"If 'this is pizza, I would gladly take a piece! Thank you for the lovely offer!"

"Let me rephrase that. We all know you want some of my hot body!"

"Actually I'm not cannibalistic but thanks for the offer," my grin widens.

"You are seriously the biggest smart-alec in the world," he rolls his eyes.

"Thank you. It's one of my many fabulous qualities," I wink, blowing him a kiss.

"Why do I even tolerate you?"

"Because you love me!" I say, bending over the seat and kissing him on the cheek.

"Hey! Do you want me to get into an accident? I mean I can barely handle your soft kisses as it is!" He

jokes.

"My world would practically end if something were to happen to you," I say jokingly. At least it was

meant to be a joke.

"What would you do if something were to happen to me?" John asks, suddenly very serious.

"I don't even know. It would be hard. Very hard."

"Why is that?"

"I don't think you even understand the impact you have had on my life John. You have helped me from my darkest places. You have been my best friend and you have showed me what love is all about. I love you and if anything were to happen, I don't think I would stop loving you."
