John drops me off at my house at exactly 11:30. I invite him inside so that I can give him his present and he also helps me with my bunny. I place the bunny inside and then grab his present off the table. Its not exactly a large present but it isn't tiny either.
"You know, you didn't have to get me anything," he says.
"You got me something," I say and hand him the box.
He gently unwraps it and opens the box. My cheeks start to tint a shade of red as his smile softens.
"Uh if you don't like it I can return it and get something else.." I mumble.
He doesn't reply, just stares at the present with barely a smile. I stand awkwardly, shifting my weight on my feet.
"It's great," he says, finally looking up at me with a huge smile.
He pulls the item out of the box. It is a picture frame that has the words "I Chose You." engraved in it. Inside the picture frame is a small picture of us in a corner along with a note that takes up the rest of the frame.
My nervousness immediately washes away and I relax.
"Okay, you worried me," I laugh awkwardly.
"I love it," he says, placing it back in the box and then he places the box on a table, stepping towards me.
"Did you have a good time?" he asks.
"I couldn't imagine a night as perfect as this going any other way," I nod.
"I'll see you tomorrow," he grins, kissing on my cheek. I feel a pair of eyes on us and turn to the hall where I barely catch my mom diving into a room.
"Bye," I say, giving him one last tight hug.
"I love you," he whispers in my ear softly.
"I love you too," I smile.
He grabs his present and with one last wave he exits my house. I watch as he walks out to his car, gently places the box in the passengers seat, and drives off.
"So how was the night?" my mom asks before I can even turn around.
I jump up and then glare at her.
"You should know, you were eavesdropping!" I say, crossing my arms and giving her a pointed look.
"I was not!" she defends.
"You were in the hall and I saw you dive into the laundry room," I accuse.
"Okay, fine I was walking in and saw you two. I didn't want interrupt so I just stood in the hallway and waited.." she lies.
"Whatever you say. Now lets go into the living room and we can talk," I wink.
She squeals like a teenage girl and skips to the living room. I follow her and find her already sitting on the couch with two cups of hot chocolate.
"So, all of the details please," she says, taking a sip of her drink.
"Well he took me to an old warehouse that was set up with pictures, a banner, and tons of delicious food. Then he made the most amazing red velvet cake that I have ever had. After that he took me to a balcony and there was a carnival outside so we went there. Oh yeah and we have new pet.." I drag off.
"What? Please don't tell me it's a snake," she says, looking petrified.
"Nope, its a baby bunny. He is in on the table in his cage. Anyway, after he won the bunny we went to the ferris wheel and when it stopped up top I stood up and went to the cage. When I turned around he was holding my present out to me. It was these necklaces," I show her the necklaces, "and then we stayed for a little longer before coming home."
