New York was filled with white snow covering the ground. Trucks plowed the streets for cars. Even though it was cold outside, New Yorkers still walked to and towards there destinations.
Some walked alone to work, busy talking on the phone with the other person on the line. Others walked with their significant other, smiling, laughing, hand in hand.
What they didn't know was that every now and then a man, or a woman, sometimes a child was following them. Could be their Mother or Grandmother, Father or Brother, or someone close to them in there hearts. When someone dies, sometimes they cant cross over because they have unfinished business. Earthbound spirits my grandmother called them. And it was my job, just as it was my grandmother's and her grandmother before her, to help them cross over and find peace.
I don't help all of them, only the ones who come to me for help or the ones who are just too confused on what happened to them. I just moved to New York, and unpacking my new antique store, when a young woman with red hair about 20 comes in." Welcome to L/n Bou-Antique! Are you looking for something in particular?" I turn around and ask her.
"No, just looking, thank you though." She smiles and continues to walk around.
"Ok, let me know if you need anything!" I nodded towards her. Thats when I realized, that a spirit was attached to her. He had white hair, as white as the snow outside. He had a blue tight work out long sleeve shirt with black slacks,He must've not been over the age of 20.
Sometimes it hard to realize whats the difference between a live person and a Earthbound. But I can feel it, in their emotions. Some are happy, some sad or confused, some have a protective emotion. I felt his protective emotion's, I was looking at him trying to find out what was his reason for staying with this woman. Thats when he noticed I was looking at him.
" You can see me?" He points at himself while looking around him making sure there was nobody around him. He had a accent when he spoke, just like the girl.
I nodded to him, not surprised that, that was his first question to me. Its very common when a Earthbound realizes that I can see them, since everyone else can't.
He comes closer towards me, knocking off a glass plate off the table. He stops when he saw what he did. The girl comes back to the front to see what happened." Opps, clumsy me" I tell her and laughed while I go to pick up the glass pieces. She nods and walks away.
I glare at the white headed boy while picking the last piece and throw it away in the nearby trashcan.
"Sorry" he shrugs and smiles a cheeky grin.
"You have to be careful. So.. what can I do to help you?" I smile at him while a clap my hands together.
"Help me? Why would I need help?" He laughed while he shakes his head at me.
" To cross? You know to the other side?"
" Your funny, I like that. But no, I don't need help. Im staying to take care of my sister." He tells me while pointing towards the girl he's been following.
" Oh she's your sister? Would have thought she was your girlfriend or something since you two look nothing alike." I whisper to him while he makes a disgusted face. I giggled at him.
" Eeww, God No. I love her and all but only because I have too. But I am single." He winks at me.
I laughed out loud that his sister turns to look at me.
" Sorry, funny text message." I tell her pulling out my phone from my pocket. She nodds towards me suspiciously.
" So how is it you can see me? Are you Boba Yaga?" He teases me while picking up a antique vase.
" No, I have a gift that was passed down to me. I help Earthbound's like you to cross over to find peace." I take away the vase and put it down where it was, I whisper to him to make sure his sister doesn't hear me and think I'm crazy talking to myself.
"Thats so cool! I have a gift too ya know? I mean I wasn't born with it but a gift is a gift!" He tells me hopping up on the empty counter.
" Really? Is it talking really fast?" I tease him while going behind the counter to pretend Im writing something down.
" Ooh.. she likes to play. I like that in a woman." He flirts with me.
" But no, Im fast princessa. Really fast." He winks before running out the front door and back, in the process breaking a few things by his speed." What was that!?" His sister comes running up to me to see what happened. He stands right next to her and winks at me.
" Yes, princessa. What ever happened?"
" Must have been the wind from outside, it dose that from time to time not really sure why. I just opened my shop a week ago. Been having this problem ever since." I tell her, trying to act confused and sorry at the same time. I didn't want to look at the white head since she can't see him.
" Oh, nice excuse. Your good at this. I never introduced myself Im am Pietro Maximoff, Your knight in shining armor. And this is my boring sister Wanda Maximoff." He says pointing at her without talking his eyes off me.
"Im Y/n L/n. Nice to meet you." I say putting my hand up to shake Wanda's hand. Without her hearing or seeing Pietro it was like I was talking to her all along.
" Wanda Maximoff." She smiles at me but it doesn't reach her eyes.
" I know this is kinda of sudden, but I'm about to close for lunch. And I don't know anyone here or even a good place to eat. I hope its not too rude of me if I ask you to lunch? I mean maybe we can be friends? You don't have to say yes." I tell her hopefully to find out how to help her if not Pietro.
" Oh princessa, are you doing this to get closer to me? If you wanted a date all you had to do is ask princessa." He winks and puts his arm around me.
" No.. I mean Yes! Yes I would like to have lunch with you. I don't have many friends either. Not that you wouldn't have friends..." she stubbles over her words while her brother laugh's at her behind her back.
" You are hopeless sister, if it wasn't for me you wouldn't have lunch with the most beautiful girl in New York. I don't know if I should be jealous or be happy about you having lunch with her instead of me?" Pietro looks at me to her a few times.
" Great! Well lets go! Know a good place to eat?" I tell her grabbing my jacket and purse. Then I open the door for her and me. When she walks out Pietro is right behind her. I turn around and lock the door.
" Umm yea, there's a Shawarma restaurant down the street that I hear about a-lot?" She asks putting on her mittens that where in her jacket pockets.
" Great! I love Shawarma!" He grab her arm in mine and walk towards the restaurant.
" Don't I have a say!? I may be dead but that doesn't mean I don't have a choice!" He says following us with his hands up.
