My alarm clock almost had me jumping out of my bed when it rang. I turned it off and walked to my bathroom with a heavy head. I did my morning routine before going downstairs towards the dining room. Sakto nilalagay ni Nanny ang mga food sa table namin.
"Nanny, what's for breakfast po?" I asked.
"Sinangag, anak. May bacon din at itlog d'yan."
I sat down, my parents aren't here yet. "Nanny, I don't like those. I want pancakes for breakfast."
"Bukas na lang ang pancakes, anak. May aasikasuhin pa kasi ako."
"But-"
"Calista, be thankful to your Nanny Maring. She made you a nice breakfast, the least you can do is enjoy the meal!" It was Dad who cut me off. I immediately stood up and was about to leave when he called me. "Saan ka pupunta?"
"I'll just have my breakfast in a cafe na lang!"
"Hindi ka aalis!"
"Whatever, Dad!"
"Calista, you're not leaving! Bumalik ka rito at kumain!" His voice was loud and scary. I had no choice but to go back to my seat and eat what Nanny served.
After having breakfast with my parents, I headed back to my room. I browsed on my social media feeds to kill some time. After a few hours, someone knocked on my door. It's my Mom.
"Do you need something, Mom?" I asked.
"We need to talk, sweetheart." She went in and sat at the edge of my bed.
"About saan po?"
"Aalis tayo mamaya. Ihahatid ka namin ng Dad mo sa Pangasinan."
"Pangasinan? Are we going to Bolinao? Magbabakasyon tayo, Mommy?"
She shook her head. "No, sweetheart. Ihahatid ka namin doon kasi, you'll be living there for the mean time?"
"Living there? Do we have a house doon, Mom?"
"Your Dad talked to someone. Magtatrabaho ka raw muna sa taong iyon for you to learn your lesson."
"Mom, I graduated with flying colors. I don't need lessons from anyone."
She tsked. "It's not that kind of lesson. Your Dad will explain."
As if on cue, Dad entered the room with a deadpan look. He settled his gaze on me before he spoke. "Magpalit ka at sumunod ka sa baba. May pupuntahan tayo."
"You said I'm not leaving. Bakit naman ako susunod sa 'yo?"
"Calista, Daddy mo 'yan. Bakit ganiyan ka makipag-usap?" Mom scolded.
"Celeste, talk to your daughter. I don't have time to deal with her attitude." Dad stormed out of the room.
"Anak, sige na. Magpalit ka na."
I had no choice but to follow what Mom said. I chose to wear a simple white v-neck shirt and black skinny jeans. I tied my hair in a ponytail. Padabog akong sumunod sa kanila sa baba. I found Nanny Maring and she told me to go outside.
My parents are waiting for me just outside our mansion. Mom is inside the car while Dad is organizing things at the back. I went to the backseat and asked my Mom what was going on.
"Mommy, why do we have bags? Are we staying in Pangasinan for that long?"
"Anak, I told you, 'di ba? Your Daddy will explain to you."
I rolled my eyes and forced myself to stay quiet. Hinding-hindi ko kakausapin si Daddy. Mom and I waited for him to finish organizing and we headed out. Sa buong biyahe, hindi ako umimik. I wore my earbuds and turned it to the highest volume. The music I was listening to made me drift off to sleep.
