This is the first time I experienced brushing my teeth na naiiyak. It's fucking five-thirty in the morning and Theo woke me up. He said I'm oversleeping, samantalang seven dapat ako nagigising. I stomped my way to his kitchen, and found him holding a pot.
He handed it to me and said, "Magsaing ka na."
"What? Ng rice?"
"Malamang, Cali!"
"Where are you going?" I asked when he was about to leave.
"Sa tindahan, bibili ako ng ulam."
"You eat tindahan-bought ulam? What does it taste like?"
"Parang pagkain?"
"Wait, Theo!"
"Ano?!"
"I-I don't know how to cook rice."
He groaned and took the pot from me. I thought he'd do it by himself, but he pulled my hand. I watched him scoop some rice into the pot before dragging me towards the sink. He poured water in the pot and handed it to me.
"Hugasan mo muna 'yang bigas." He stood behind me, his hand holding the pot and the other one is holding my wrist, guiding me to stir the rice. My back is firmly pressed against his chest and I can feel something hard poking my butt. "Pagkatapos mong hugasan, lagyan mo ulit ng tubig tapos puwede nang iluto. Kapag kumulo na, hinaan mo muna 'yong apoy. Bantayan mo, huwag mong iiwan, baka masunog ang bahay ko. Naintindihan mo ba?"
I cleared my throat and nodded. "S-Sure. I get it."
"Sige, bibili na ako ng ulam, ha? Dito ka lang. Kapag may kumatok, huwag mo munang pansinin kahit mukhang mabait."
I smiled after he left. The heaven must've made a miracle. Biglang bumait sa akin si Theo. I suddenly remembered Vivien's advice, and thought it's a good idea. Siguro, it won't be too bad to use my charms on him para hindi siya magalit.
After washing the rice four times, I poured water into it at nilagay iyon sa stove. Thank goodness he uses gas stove. We use gas range stove at home, but I know how to use one of these since I watched Nanny Maring cook sometimes.
Tumakbo ako papuntang kuwarto ko and took my phone before sprinting back to the kitchen. Mabuti na lang I have ebooks downloaded offline. I read my favorite novels while waiting for the rice to boil. After maybe three to five chapters, Theo came back.
"Hindi pa ba 'yan kumukulo?" he asked.
"Hindi pa naman."
"Bakit ang tagal? Kanina pa ako umalis. Nakabili na ako ng ulam at lahat-lahat, hindi pa rin kumukulo." He walked towards the stove and took a peek at the rice. "Anak ng! Gaano karaming tubig ang inilagay mo?"
"Uhm, I filled the pot with water?"
"Ang sabi ko kanin, hindi lugaw!" he yelled.
Vi's advice suddenly popped in my head, so I ran to him and hugged him, leaning my cheek on his chest. "I'm sorry, hindi kasi ako marunong, e'. I trailed my fingers on his biceps and I noticed that he stifled a gasp.
"Ano'ng ginagawa mo?"
"Please forgive me, Theo." I pressed my chest on his body but he gently pushed me.
"Sinapian ka ba ng masamang espirito?" He looked weirded out.
"No, why?"
"Bakit bigla mo akong niyayakap? Kahapon pinagkakamalan mo pa akong kriminal, tapos ganiyan ka ngayon?"
"Wala. I just wanna say sorry. And you proved me wrong naman na."
"S-Sige. Bumalik ka muna sa kuwarto mo. Gagawin ko na lang na lugaw 'to. Tawagin kita mamaya, tapos sa garden tayo didiretso."
