Starkiller had been quiet. Quiet enough that you could easily trick yourself into thinking that you could hear the blood moving through your veins, your thoughts oppressive in the empty space.
Maybe it was the fact that your room had been deep within the base, which itself was nestled within a planet, that muffled all sounds, canceling them out before they had a chance to reach your ears. Even the normal noises that one would expect were absent- people moving around, droids working, or any other machinery- it was all silent enough to not draw your notice.
The Finalizer, however, was not quiet. Not in any capacity could it even be considered quiet. Even through the blast door you could hear the thud of passing Stormtroopers' boots, the occasional work droid whirring away, mechanical droning, and general ambience of being on an enormous ship.
It was cacophonous to your sensitive ears.
Your room on Starkiller had not been spacious by any means, but the thin room you were currently stowed away in was claustrophobic enough that the memory of your room seemed expensive in comparison. You couldn't even tell if the room was meant to be a sleeping chamber, the thin cot you were currently sitting on not seeming to be a permanent fixture in the room.
Maybe they just cleared out a random storage room for you, shoving an unclaimed cot into the space and calling it day. Which would certainly be a lot of trouble when you had access to a significantly better room. But because Kylo Ren decided that you couldn't be trusted in his bare-bones chambers, they had to prepare a glorified cubby for you to sleep in.
Being a Stormtrooper, it seemed, was a thankless job.
The entire time you had been in this room, you were waiting for Kylo to get back so you could at least know that you hadn't been forgotten, that this hadn't been a clever ruse to lock you up and throw away the key. He had given no indication that he was planning to toss you aside, but you couldn't help but be wary. In the beginning of your captivity with the First Order you had gotten a decent taste of how they treated their normal prisoners. You certainly had no desire to relieve that experience.
You had no idea of how long you had been away from Kylo. You had slept for as long as you could withstand on the stiff cot (which hadn't been very long) and had two lukewarm meals delivered to you (which were nothing special). But without a chronometer, you only had your rough estimations, and those couldn't be trusted as an accurate form of telling time.
When Kylo had said that his mission wouldn't take long, what exactly had he meant? You had no frame of reference for the average length of his missions, so "not long" could mean anything from a few hours to over a week.
And you would certainly not survive being in this tiny room for more than three days.
At least on Starkiller, people would occasionally visit you. Or you had a datapad.
Here, you only had your mind. And you were thoroughly exhausted from being your own company all the time.
___
It seemed that fate agreed that you had spent too much time by yourself.
You were sitting on your cot, humming a mindless tune and trying to pass the time as best you could, when the blast door opened. Immediately shooting up into a seated position, you craned your neck to look out into the hall, trying to see who it was. You hated to admit it, but you were hoping with your entire being that it was Kylo Ren.
When it was revealed that it was not Kylo but a single Stormtrooper, you almost let yourself fall onto your back once more, disappointed but not surprised that it was just a meal delivery.
