Third Person POV

Along with the rising sun in the city, a new murder often followed. What better way to wake yourself up in the morning than investigating the tragic death of a murdered, innocent civilian? Harvey could probably think of at least a dozen, number one being laying on a hot beach, a drink in his hand with a pretty woman by his side. But here he was, partnerless, both romantically and in the career sense, on the top of a roof, investigating how a man had been killed by being tied to a chair then hung over the side of a building.

"Harvey," Essen said, gaining the cop's attention as he leant over the side of the building, watching the city life down below him.

"Captain," Harvey acknowledged, turning to face her.

"What have we got?" Essen asked.

"Some time last night Mr. Lucky there got tied to that chair," Harvey began to explain, gesturing over to where Ed was crouched down beside the dead body, frantically typing away on his phone. "A noose was dropped over his neck and he was heaved over the side. Some suits coming up for a smoke this morning found him."

"How'd he get back up to the roof?" Essen inquired, doubting that the man's spirit had lifted himself back onto the roof in a last attempt to save himself.

"See that pulley there?" Harvey pointed just behind Essen where the noose had been attached to a pulling machine atop the building. "My guess, it was the killer."

"Guy went to a lot of trouble to get him back up. Why not leave him hanging?" Essen asked.

"Morning, Captain," a cheerful voice said, coming over to join the two.

"Good morning, Ed," Essen replied.

"The more you cut me, the bigger I grow. What am I?" Ed said.

"We're on a rooftop. Don't tempt me," Harvey grumbled, seriously considering either throwing himself or Ed over the top to stop himself from hearing the rest of yet another riddle.

Ed sighed before he pulled out his phone and held it out for the two of them to see. His screen displayed his last conversation with Holly where he had asked that same riddle and she had responded with two words ...

"A hole," Ed answered, smiling as Harvey and Essen glanced at the phone then at each other before back over to Ed.

"Okay. Relevance," Essen requested.

"There's a hole, a surgical incision, in our victim's abdomen," Ed explained. "Certainly post-mortem. My guess, killer was looking for something. I'll have to examine the body at the lab."

"You mean the medical examiner," Essen reminded him.

"Well, but—"

"You handle forensics, Ed. The bodies belong to Dr. Guerra. And he's made formal complaints. I can't cover for you anymore," Essen said.

"I read you, ma'am. Loud and clear," Ed assured her.

He gave both Harvey and Essen a nod of his head before he turned around and walked back towards the dead body. Taking a deep breath, Essen noticed that things were running a little too smoothly than usual.

"So where's Gordon?" Essen asked.

"Personal stuff. He'll be here soon," Harvey replied before he turned around and peered over the ledge again.

"Don't stand so near the edge," Essen requested.

"You worried about me, captain?" Harvey asked, a small smirk toying on his lips as he glanced back over at her. "You know I don't start drinking till noon."
