You honestly spoke too soon about that whole 'no one is going to die tonight' part because you most definitely were going to die tonight.

After editing Rodrick's video where you made him do most of the work, you had decided to just hang around since Rodrick wasn't getting on your nerves right now. In fact, dinner was fun. You never really got to have home sit down type meals since your Father would just have you live with a nanny growing up and other employees of his that were meant to take care of you. It was sad that Mabel was the only non-employee you ever lived with. Your Father never lived in the same house as you since he was always traveling for work. That or he seriously just straight-up did not like you and hated being near you. Who knows? You stopped questioning that idea long ago.

But it was getting late and you were wondering when Rodrick's parents were going to come back home. Rodrick was washing the rest of the dishes while you sat at the kitchen counter, playing with the edge of a placemat. Rodrick was drying off the last dish as he turned to you.

"Hey [Y/N], did you want to maybe stay a bit longer? We can hangout by ourselves or something?" Rodrick had his hands in his pockets as he asked you to hangout with him past what was expected of you. You could hangout longer with Rodrick and honestly it wouldn't be awful. He had actually been really nice to you today.

You had agreed and Rodrick led you up to his room in the attic. His door had the obvious Keep Out sign. Rodrick turned the knob and held the door open for you. What a gentleman. As you walk in, you see a large light and as you ascend to the top of the stairs you see Rodrick's curtain was on fire.

"OH MY GOD, RODRICK! FIRE, CURTAIN, HOLY FUCK!" You scream out. Running towards the window, quickly pulling the curtain off of the rod, you stomp onto the curtain getting the fire to slowly go out. You look at Rodrick with wild eyes and then your eyes dart to the candle in his room that was wayyyy to close to the window and the curtains.

"Rodrick-" you start in on him. He eventually muttered out, "[Y/N] it's not-"

"What the fuck, dude? Why would you light a candle in a room, walk away, and place the damn thing too close to flammable fabric? When did you even light this? We were downstairs together the whole time!" You check the bottom of your shoes to see if anything was melted to them. Thankfully it was fine. You could feel adrenaline slowly leaving your body, making you feel slightly irritated that you even had to do that.

"I lit it before you came over. I wanted my room to smell nice in case you wanted to hangout..." Rodrick points to the area of his room, pouting. Now that you were calmed down you could actually see what his room looked like. He had a lot of lights up and didn't use the overhead lighting, which you actually liked. Ceiling lights were always harsh. His room was surprisingly clean and had posters all over the wall. Maybe Rodrick had cleaned his room before you came over, but you could probably guess he didn't clean it well. You were tempted to look under his bed for piles of trash, but restrained yourself from doing so.

"Well Rodrick, now it only smells like smoke! You could have killed us! Or your siblings who we were entrusted to babysit. Wait no. YOU were entrusted to protect, I would be a casualty." You took the burned curtain and folded it up, you would throw it out later after running it under water. If you threw it out now, it could start up again because of the heat radiating from it still and when it came to Rodrick, you weren't taking any chances. But now Rodrick was getting mad at you for HIS mistake

"[Y/N], I'm sorry? I was just trying to do something nice for you so I wouldn't be a low-life CRETIN! I'm not stupid, by the way. I know it's not crouton. You don't have to keep treating everyone like they're beneath you! Like you're smarter, nicer, and just better than everyone." Rodrick crossed his arms over his chest, staring you down. You were not scared to fight back.
