Was this trip going to kill you? Possibly. You were no longer in suburbia and in the middle of the woods. Well, you were still on the bus because someone had found a vape and Mrs. Baxter was making a very big deal of it. You watched as the tiniest woman alive became a dictator telling which people could get off the bus because she somehow JUST KNEW they would never touch this 'devil juice stick.' She of course let Madison off because of her goody two shoes appearance. And Mrs. Baxter knew because Madison "wouldn't do that," and Heather wouldn't either.
"Best friends ensure that we are all safe and cared for. Madison is your best friend, Heather! I just know she looks out for you!" Yeah, what a load of bullshit. Madison was drunk on the bus and Heather encouraged it. Heather looks back at you and winks. You can't hate the player, but hate the game. Heather was smart for being the most popular girl in school. She knew how to handle any person she came across and it was awe inspiring. She did her best to protect Madison. You weren't really sure of their relationship. You know they've hooked up, but something felt strange about those two. Madi was sweet and genuine while Heather felt ingenuine. But maybe that was just your internalized hate on the popular girls.
You've never liked popular girls and you actively avoided being one. You didn't try to make friends at any of the schools you've been to, but they somehow would find you and you would fall for their niceties every time. It usually was to use you in some way or your Father's money.
The only time that wasn't true was with Tessa. She genuinely liked you. She wanted to be your friend for the sake of finding someone who was like an extension of yourself. True and fitting and everything feeling comforting and safe. Tessa was a special person who deserved more out of life than she got. She deserved life more than you did, you thought after she died. It took you a long time until you believed that you deserved a life too. Rodrick knew how you felt about that. He tried hard to make sure you appreciated your time; whether it was a life with him or without.
Rodrick had a funny way of seeing the world. He believed most people were idiots and you kind of agreed with him. People pretend they don't know what they want. They pretend to like people and actually hate them. They pretend that their life is going how it's supposed to go. A good job, a family, and one vacation week a year. Rodrick said they were just lying to themselves and denying their mortal existence a pleasurable life. Yeah, Rodrick said some weirdly deep stuff when he was high. But you had to agree with them. Your own Father had a good job and once upon a time a family that probably loved him. He of course could afford vacation whenever he wanted, but his life was miserable. His wife left him, his own sister Mabel barely talked to him, and his own daughter... Well, let's just say she was going to be gone soon too.
Trying to forget your Father and make a mental note to not ever think of him again; you turn your attention back to Mrs. Baxter who is still trying to figure out who the vape belongs to.
You watched as Kai stepped off the bus, he threw two fingers to his temple and saluted his way off. He basically signaled good luck to you. You were really unsure of where you stood with Mrs. Baxter. She was scary and had already threatened to not let you on this trip or prom or even your own graduation. You already knew she had more experience with Rodrick than you. And Rodrick was not exactly a model student. Not that he vaped or anything... that any authority figure saw, but Mrs. Baxter made it clear he was a frequent flyer in her office. And you, now because you and Rodrick were dating, were going to be guilty by association.
"Rodrick, please tell me that vape isn't yours?" You plead, your voice quiet. You trust Rodrick completely. But as more and more students got off the bus, you worried.
"[Y/N, come on. You know I don't vape. It'll ruin my lung capacity for drumming. Smoking weed is as far as I'll go." Rodrick says, putting his hand out as if to stop the idea that the vape was his.
