You had thankfully gotten out of having to answer the felony question once again. You liked seeing the look on Rodrick's face when you had a secret he couldn't know. It drove him nuts not knowing how you maintained a straight-A student vibe while somehow committing a crime. You think at some point you'll tell Rodrick the story, but for now you had bigger issues to worry about.
You were currently sitting in your history class, with nothing to do. The school had issued you a laptop, which was supposed to be used for school papers and things like that. You had finished your history paper on Thailand, two weeks ago. You were the type that as soon as you got an assignment, you would start it. Honestly, you thought this school must be full of idiots as it was only a three page paper and didn't even require a works cited page. Some people opted for a PowerPoint or poster board instead of a paper. Today was supposed to be a work day for the class and even though you had already asked, you couldn't be excused and were expected to sit and twiddle your thumbs for an hour.
That is until you feel a poke in your back. Most likely a black pen, with the cap chewed on.
"[Y/N]! Psssstt," you hear in a whisper. "Do you remember what country I had? I don't and I feel at this point if I ask Mr. Huff he's gonna be mad. Do you think he'll be mad?" You turn around in your seat to see Rodrick, hair sticking out on the sides, looking confused at you.
You cup Rodrick's cheek with your right hand and lower your voice. "Rodrick, you shouldn't care if Mr. Huff is going to be mad. You should care if I'm going to be mad because this is the fifth time you've asked me what country you had since we were assigned this project two weeks ago!" You push his face away and roll your eyes. That's the closest thing Rodrick has gotten to a slap since you met.
"[Y/N], you don't have to be-" Rodrick holds his cheek in defense, rubbing it like you had actually hurt him.
"What? Such a bitch? Rodrick, you are supposed to be doing well in school and I handle making you a good person. Seriously? Just put a little effort into school. I am not your babysitter!" You called yourself a bitch like how Rodrick did the first time you met. You've come somewhat of a way since then, but not far enough. He still gets on your nerves with how bad at school he was. It was a surprise he had somehow made it to senior year. The Fail Safe Program was the only thing in his way to graduate which was probably his first real challenge in his life, ever.
Most teachers passed him enough to make sure he couldn't repeat the grade, at least that's the rumors you heard. You had learned Plainview was quite the rumor mill and you learned quickly what to take to heart and what was a total lie. You had even heard a rumor about yourself that you and Kai, the boy who had complimented you on your first day, had hooked up. Which, he wasn't bad looking, but you were not hooking up with him anyway. He hadn't approached you since the first day of classes. In fact, you hadn't seen him since that first day in the parking lot.
"Oh! Speaking of babysitting, I have to watch Greg and Manny tonight. Do you want to come over and help me write about whatever country I have?" Rodrick looked excited while asking you to help him. While you enjoyed hearing from Greg how high school was going and Rowley would most likely join him, who you also liked, there was the toddler you were worried about. To be honest, that creature kind of scared you. You learned the string he carried around was actually a baby blanket. Which scared you because how did it become so decrypted in FIVE YEARS?
"Rodrick, unless I'm going to be compensated for my time, no thanks." You turn around in your seat and pull out your phone. Not like you had a lot of people to text. Your Father had texted you earlier in the week.
Father: Good to hear you will be interning at the station with Mabel. That is an appropriate way to connect with her and spend your time, Marcus.
