You let go of Rodrick and wrap your hand around the gem. Tessa would always be close to your heart. It was hard getting through New Years alone by yourself, it always was. Passing her death date this year locked in a basement was not ideal. You honestly just tried sleeping most of the day, just so you wouldn't have to think. But it was hard to not remember her. She reminded you of a lot of things and all the snow that came during the winter months didn't help.
Isolation is never a good thing for anyone and now you realize that people in jail obviously fucking hate jail if they get solitary confinement. You now have to hope you don't end up in jail for what you and your friends were trying to accomplish tonight; getting your freedom back. Which now has you wondering if any of this is even legal, but is anything your father doing even legal?
You open the van's passenger side door and step out, hearing the sound of your heels click onto the cold concrete of the parking garage. You notice the level you are on: LEVEL 5. You have a feeling Rodrick will not remember where he parked and you'll be cold and searching for it later.
But Rodrick was a mystery for you. He has changed a lot over six months. He no longer was this stupid boy who had no real goals. He was a man full of passion for music and his friends. He had dreams of doing something, anything with his life as long as you were in it. Which is what makes all of this really hard for you. Rodrick really cares for you. Hell, he wants to take you on a date after all of this. That is, if you actually succeed in breaking yourself out of the basement and out from under your Fathers clutches.
You and Rodrick walk towards the elevators in the parking garage. Silent. On a mission. You feel like you need to be laser focused and that you also have no idea what that looks like. You enter the vestibule where the elevator is located, feeling slightly warmer. As you hit the button, you begin making sure you understand the plan. Rodrick explained only what you needed to do; which was stay by his side all night. Which you are pretty sure is not an actual plan for your escape, but more so because he just wanted to hang out.
"Rodrick, seriously. What is the plan for tonight? How are we pulling this off?" You say rubbing your hands along your arms, trying to warm up. It felt nicer waiting by the elevator than the car, but even you still were chilled. You had given back Rowley's jacket already and were missing it dearly. You didn't want Rodrick's jacket however, he looked too good in a full blown suit. You honestly didn't want him to take anything off.
You couldn't help but let your eyes fall over him. All over him. He had styled his hair, his suit was pressed, and he was wearing that cologne from one of the first times you hung out. He even had actual dress shoes on and not sneakers. He had really tried for this event. That or there was an actual dress code he had to follow or you wouldn't be let in. But you like to imagine he was trying his best for you. It reminds you of when he said he wanted to be a Good Boy for you once. He really did try to be. He just wanted to help you in any way he could and it's so obvious he really was trying. He actually was being a good boy. You had to laugh to yourself a little when the thought popped into your mind.
"Well, our job is to just stay in the building for as long as possible without being caught by your Father. Chirag is working on a technical problem. Holly and Rowley are working the crowd. Greg and Fregley are lookouts." Rodrick grabs you by the shoulders. "Listen, the less you know that's happening, the better. Chirag says that they can't arrest you because you have plausible deniability or something like that if you know less stuff. Look, just let us handle it. You and I are gonna have a great time while the plan goes into motion. So, just enjoy it." Rodrick gives you a small, reassuring smile and you agree with him. Maybe it would be good for you to know less of what was actually happening. But you could also help if Rodrick made a stupid plan.
