As you make your way towards the stage, you're worried your Father might see you. Or somehow his employees know you aren't supposed to be here. That somehow you are going to fuck up the last bit of the plan. That this was all going to be your fault if any of that were to happen.

You never even make it to the stage before Mabel grabs your arm, pulling you towards the side of the room. Her hair is done up in almost a beehive fashion with a purple dress adorning the rest of her body.

"What are you doing here, [Y/N]?" Mabel asks concerned. You do not show any emotion to her. She had ruined the relationship you two had built over a series of months by not saying or doing anything when your Father smacked you across the face 4 months ago. She didn't even try to help you get out of house arrest.

"Why do you care? Are you going to report me to your brother for leaving my cage?" The bitterness in your voice shows through your questions.

"I will regret that day for the rest of my life, but please, I am trying to help you now. You cannot be here. If your-" She clasps her hands together and keeps watching the stage behind you.

"I could give a shit if my Father finds me here. He doesn't scare me anymore. You scare me however with how you allow child abuse in your home." You couldn't believe anything she says. She should have done something or said something to your Father about hitting you, putting an ankle monitor on you, and locking you in a basement for 4 months.

"I swear, he was locking you up for a good reason, but his methods were unjustified. He's trying to protect you from-"And before Mabel can finish, the lights cut out. You take this as your cue to rush the stage and wait for Rodrick's cue. Your breath is shaking and maybe you need another drink to calm yourself. You felt bad leaving Mabel, but you had people counting on you. YOU were counting on you.

"Please welcome to the stage, [Y/N] [L/N], daughter of Marcus, CEO of Mabel & Mora Partners!" Quickly the lights come back on, blinding you. You hold your hand up to your eyes to ease some of the pain. You tried to look for the sound booth where your friends were at, but it was hard to see anything. You instead look down and find the teleprompter where it says READ ME. Real subtle, Rodrick. The words begin to move on the screen. You read and speak what your friends have written for you.

"Hello everyone! Welcome to Mabel & Mora Partners gala. I am so thrilled to be here tonight. I would like to congratulate a few people tonight. First, a huge thank you to the Plainview Historical and Conservationist society for allowing us to have the gala here. This was my first time here and this place is beautiful. Next, I would like to thank my aunt Mabel for hiring the orchestra here tonight, can we please give them a round of applause?" You start to clap your hands and everyone else in the room follows your lead. So far, none of your Father's security team have stopped you and there's no sign of your Father. And Mabel is not rushing to get him either.

"And lastly, I would like to thank my Father for having me come to his hometown for my senior year of high school. This has been one of the best years of my life. I've made friends, I've found myself, and I've come to understand why my Father loves this town so much." As soon as the last words leave your mouth, you see your Father, on stage left in the wings. He looks furious. Probably because Rodrick and his spy team have been giving him the run around all night. He enters from the side stage and he makes his way to you, but as soon as he hits the stage where people can see him, he's smiling and laughing. There's no way Rodrick planned for this because the teleprompter says to now improv your way out of this IMPROV YOUR WAY OUT OF THIS. Guess that 5 minutes went by quicker than you thought.

"And here is the man of the hour! I know he is aching to give a speech that many of you will probably groan at because of the Dad jokes he makes," everyone laughs at you and your joke. You're only saying this to try and stop your Father from cutting you off. "But dad, I have to tell you. I know how happy mom would be to see us living together and celebrating huge milestones like my senior year, prom, and graduation. I know how happy I am to spend time with you and aunt Mabel." You motion to Mabel off stage, who is trying to smile and not freak out about what you were doing. You continue on with your speech still even with your Father about to throw you off the stage.
