Loud music pounded Eli's ears but it sounded fate to him as he had been drowning in his thoughts. That was until a hand that belonged to Devon slapped him on the back in his usual playful manner. Eli snapped out of it and Devon turned the music down just enough.

"Yo, what's up with you man? You been zooming
out all day," Devon sat beside him on the stair step.

Eli shook his head, leaning his elbows on his thighs.

"Just been thinking. Nothing serious."

"You know, I know you guys may think I'm clueless half the time but I'm not THAT clueless. You been fighting with my woman and that's why you been here, ignoring her calls." Devon concluded which surprised Eli.

But he felt a little bad. The guys did think he was just a clueless person and so did Eli himself. But could you blame them? Devon's head is always in wonderland.

Or just thinking about Alona.

"That's my woman, you think I wouldn't notice? No man can stay away from Alona White this long and not be in some kind of fight. So tell me, what's up."

He was just full of surprises today.

It was weird, Devon always seemed smarter on his birthdays. It was like his version of a full moon.

"It's private, personal, so I can't say."

"Alright man, can I be real for a second?"

"I've dreamt of the day you become serious, bro."

He chuckled and turned his body to face Eli.

"Whatever this fight is between you two, let it go. I'm begging you to let it go, man. Go home and apologize or just hear her out, I don't know, it depends on whatever the situation it is. But man, I'm telling you... you don't want to lose someone like Alona. God, man I'm telling you. Don't let some fight come in between y'all..."

"You know her better than any of us. You'll forever know how to not lose her to a fight. You do not want to not know her, trust me. So call her or go home to her and talk, listen, understand, hug it out. Just no kissing."

"... that's still my woman man so hands-off."

Eli chuckled as Devon held his fist out.

"Hey, she was my woman first. We grew up together, remember?" he said half-joking, fist-bumping Devon's fist. Eli liked to think Alona was his first. Not that she was anyone's like some kind of property or object.

He knew her before any other guy could have, even if it wasn't in the way he'd been hoping for. It still counted to him. Alona was his best friend. No one topped that.

He was the one she'd come to, no one else.

That was something special to him.

"Hey, I had a part in that too. Fifth-grade man."

"I knew her since we could walk. I win."
