Upon arriving at the office building, the Doctor explains as they run inside, "To you lot this might just be a locksmiths, but HC Clements was brought up twenty three years ago by the Torchwood Institute." He rushes over to a computer to begin searching for some information on what is going on.
"Who are they?" Donna asks.
Avery puts a hand on the Doctor's shoulder, silently telling him to focus on the computer as she tells Donna, "They were behind the battle of Canary Wharf." As Donna and Lance share confused looks, Avery's expression shifts to an incredulous one as she continues, "Cyberman invasion. Skies over London full of Daleks?"
"Oh, I was in Spain." Donna replies.
"They had Cybermen in Spain." Avery responds.
"Scuba diving." Donna adds.
"That big picture, Donna. You keep on missing it." The Doctor quips, barely looking up from the computer even as Avery flicks the back of his head, "Torchwood was destroyed, but HC Clements stayed in business." He rushes over to a different computer, "I think someone else came in and took over the operation." He gives the computer a quick hit to the monitor.
"But what do they want with me?" Donna questions.
The Doctor looks over at Avery, silently telling her to keep trying the computers. She rolls her eyes before moving to another computer and beginning to work at it while he turns to Donna and begins to explain, "Somehow you've been dosed with Huon energy. And that's a problem, because Huon energy hasn't existed since the Dark Times. The only place you'd find a Huon particle now is a remnant in the heart of the Tardis. See? That's what happened." As Donna looks at him with a mix of concern and confusion, he quickly comes up with a physical example, "Say, that's the Tardis." He picks up a coffee mug, "And that's you." He holds up a pencil, "The particles inside you activated. The two sets of particles magnetized and whap." He shakes the mug and the pencil, then drops the pencil into the mug, "You were pulled inside the Tardis."
"I'm a pencil inside a mug?" Donna asks.
"Yes, you are. 4H. Sums you up." The Doctor replies, swirling the pencil in the mug.
"Cute puppet show." Avery comments, not looking up from the computer monitor.
"Avery." The Doctor sends her a pointed look that softens when he sees the ways she smiles at his response before setting down the mug with the pencil and addressing Lance, "Lance? What was HC Clements working on? Anything top secret? Special operations? Do not enter?"
"I don't know, I'm in charge of personnel. I wasn't project manager." Lance answers as the Doctor goes over to Avery's computer and buzzes her screen with his screwdriver. She pouts slightly at him unlocking it for her when she would have gotten it eventually. They both pointedly ignore Lance continuing in a much angrier tone, "Why am I even explaining myself? What the hell are we talking about?"
Avery pulls up the building plans as the Doctor hovers over her shoulder, musing, "You make keys, that's the point." He then points at the screen, "And look at this. We're on the third floor. Underneath reception, there's a basement, yes?" As Lance nods, the Doctor rushes off to the lift, the doors luckily opening very quickly so there isn't too long of a break in his point,
"Then how come when you look on the lift, there's a button marked lower basement? There's a whole floor which doesn't exist on the official plans. So what's down there, then?""Are you telling me this building's got a secret floor?" Lance asks.
"No, I'm showing you this building's got a secret floor." The Doctor replies, causing Avery to snort in amusement.
"It needs a key." Donna reminds him.
"I don't." The Doctor responds. He sonics the LB button, unlocking it, "Right then. Thanks, you two. We can handle this. See you later." He swiftly dismisses them as he tucks his sonic screwdriver away and Avery steps into the lift.
