Barely two months later, Gwen is approaching the rest of her team, who were gathered around a very dead Jack, pale and in a body bag. "You're certain?" She asks.

"He's ice cold." Owen answers, solemnly, "No vital signs."

"He survived when you shot him." Gwen counters, "When I first joined, he said he couldn't die."

"He was wrong."

"I want to sit with him."

"Gwen–"

"I want to sit with him." Gwen repeats, reaching out and gently running a hand along his cheek.

Owen nods in understanding and they move to leave, however, before exiting, Tosh speaks up, "I think we should call Avery." The others gave her a look, like it was a surprise. Tosh looks unimpressed by their shock, "What? She's his best friend, she deserves to know."

Gwen perks up, an idea flitting to her, "She said it was her fault Jack couldn't die. Maybe she can fix it, make it so he can't die again."

"Bringing someone back to life is no easy feat, Gwen." Owen reminds her gently, "You know that."

"It's worth a try." Gwen counters.

"Okay." Owen agrees softly before looking at the others, "But, which one of us should call her? None of us are particularly close to her." Gwen gives him a look, pointed and knowing, "Don't look at me like that. Just because I snogged her doesn't mean I know her."

"I'll call her." Tosh offers, the others silently agreeing because she'd be the most tactful of all of them. She offers Gwen a soft look as she tells her, "Gwen, you can stay with Jack while I call her."

"Okay." Gwen replies and with that the others leave the room.

A couple hours later, Avery is being led by Tosh to Jack's body. When she enters the room and sees Jack a pale white, she gasps, tears choking her as she stumbles to his side. Gwen rubs a comforting hand on her back as Tosh slips away to leave the two alone. It had only been a couple months since she had last been here, how could so much have gone wrong in that time? She turns to look at Gwen as she chokes out, voice cracking, "What happened?"

"We did something really stupid." Gwen admitted. "We opened the rift and a being of death called Abbadon came through. Jack thought..." She trails off as she tries to describe what happened, "Because he couldn't die, he thought if he sacrificed himself..."

"It would be too much for Abbadon." Avery concludes, expression hardening as the tears stop. Gwen nods, "Why did you call me?"

"We don't know if this is permanent, but if it is, you deserved to know." Avery's eyes pierce her, silently pushing for the unspoken part of her answer, so Gwen concedes, "And, you said it was your fault he couldn't die, so..."

"You hoped I'd be able to do it again."

"Yeah."

"Trust me, if I could, I would, but it wasn't really me the first time, it was..." She trails off as she feels a pulling in her chest, making her blink a few times, "It was..." It became sharp and almost painful as a tether between her and Jack was plucked. She shakes her head slightly as she rubs at her chest, "Sorry, I can't..." Her head pounds.

Gwen furrows her brows, looking at the blonde in concern, "Avery?"

Her head hurts, like it's burning. It was like when she tried to remember being the Bad Wolf, but tripled. Gwen backs away from her as a golden glow fills her eyes and the songs of thousands fill her mind. "I bring life." She breathes, voice with that strange twinge again.
