Being a matchmaker isn't that easy, since you have to pair someone up with your client and make sure they won't be enemies and claw each other's faces. And you also have to make sure that they complement each other's attitudes, like if one is short tempered, the other must have an extra bar of patience and stuff like that. But being a matchmaker isn't purely business, it's fun too because you get to know other people and see them fall for each other, happily in love that they won't let a fight ruin such a precious relationship.
It's a job so sweet that it could give you more cavities than a candy.
Growing up in a family like mine is like being in a romance novel, everyone's in love. My parents are happily married for more than a decade, and they're one of the perfect examples the saying, "opposites attract". My Dad's more of the comedian type of person, when my Mom is the business minded, you know the kind of person who focuses so much on their work but even so, she doesn't make managing our small restaurant her top priority.
Forster family's motto: Family comes first than other jobs out there and also, love knows no boundaries or stuff like that.
And then there's my brother, who's my sister's twin, has a girlfriend and they love each other so much that he announced to everyone at home that he's going to marry her once he got a job. He's still in college, my parents won't let him marry yet anyway. And last but not the least, my sister and I. We don't have boyfriends yet, but I know both of us have got that special guy we'd love to be our boyfriend.
But given that my family is like that, they're not the main reason on why I'm a matchmaker, it's actually because of my Nana, my grandmother. When I was a kid, she'd pick me up from my friend's house and babysit me because my parents are at my other sibling's school, probably at the principal's office because of my brother and at my sister's quiz bee. She'd turn on the tv to some cheesy romance films, and when we were both watching, there's that once scene that got my attention the most and I asked her about that.
"Nana, why is that guy crying?" I asked and took a seat next to her on the sofa.
She wiped a tear that was rolling on her cheek and answered, "Because he loves the guy so much and he's extremely happy that he'd met her, and look!" She exclaimed then pointed at the t.v, "He's proposing to her!"
"Proposing?" She turned to look at me and smiled sweetly.
"Yes, dear. That means they're going to marry each other, and have their own family."
I looked down at my Nutella stained fingers. "Does that mean they'll be like the ones in the fairy tales, Nana?"
Nodding her head, she looked at the t.v and clapped. "Like the prince and princess, couples who marry each other because they truly love one another, live a real life fairy tale, Maddie."
The things Nana told me made me think that every person deserves to be in love with the right person and live their own real life fairy tale. At such young age, my family showed me love and Nana explained to me the concept of love for couples and marrying. Which made me be a matchmaker.
It started when I was in fourth grade and it was Valentines day. There was a male teacher, Mr. Walkins and he obviously likes our adviser, Ms. Shaw. When it was recess time, I saw him standing outside our room and hiding a big bouquet of roses and a big box of chocolates which was for our adviser Ms. Shaw, and no other teacher because why would he wait outside our classroom, right? So, my guts told me that it was a job for Maddie the Matchmaker. I asked him who he was waiting for and why he had flowers and chocolates, who he'll give it to and his answer came out in stutters. My guts were correct.
