Clarke's POV
I grinned as I walked towards the family of five that had excited expressions painted on their faces, especially the little boy.
"Hawaiian pizza for the McKinleys,"
I placed the plates of pizza on their table slowly, but surely, to not make a mess. Once I've given them all the slices of pizza, they all thanked me and then ate. I smiled at them before walking back to the kitchen window to deliver some more pizza— which I honestly wanted to taste and eat.
I have been working straight for two whole days now, because I badly needed some money to pay for the rent of a crappy apartment. I haven't eaten properly, haven't even slept for an hour all because I had to work. I'm supposed to be going to college to study and graduate, earn a degree in Engineering but no— I'm stuck in this smelly pizzeria, in this neon green uniform and red apron. Like a walking Christmas tree, aren't I?
People have pitied me, because I've been working my arse off to pay at least a small amount for my apartment's rent, instead of going to college and pursuing my dreams. But at least I've stopped being an alcoholic. Well, I did drink sometimes; some tequila and vodka but that was it, it wasn't regularly nor would I drink to get drunk. No, I drank just enough alcohol to keep me warm when I was kicked out of my crappy abode.
The hours flew by and since my shift was over, I had to head out to my other job: bartending. Good thing the chef, Paolo gave me some pizzas I can munch on and use as fuel to work another 8 hour shift.
I took off my uniform at the employees' quarters at the back of the pizzeria and grabbed my stuff out of my locker. My leather jacket, and pair of worn out Doc Martens. The only objects that I had after the family business went bankrupt and they had to sell all of our stuff, to obtain the cash that was still insufficient for the debt. So, we were homeless.
After tying my messy blonde hair into an even messier bun, I applied a bit of lipstick and mascara and after one look at the small mirror glued on the inside of my locker, I faked a smile and closed the locker door with a clang.
When I got out of the quarters, our boss Rodrick, came into view and blocked the way with his hand stretching towards the wall perpendicular to his stance.
I crossed my arms in front of my chest and put my weight on my left leg, letting me stretch the other leg. I rolled my eyes at him and waited for him to speak.
The bald man looked at me with arrogance sparkling in his eyes. He chuckled and said, "Oh, you headin' to that stinky bar?"
"So what now, Rodrick?" I snapped at him. I have always hated this guy.
He grinned this time, letting me see his yellowish teeth. "How much does that George Everett pay you anyway?"
I smirked. Is he seriously asking me this question?
"A big amount that we all know you couldn't afford to give your employees?" I answered confidently.
It's true. Mr. Everett pays his employees about a minimum of a 100 dollars per night, and Rodrick here pays us less than a half of it. But all my salary goes to the expenses, of course.
Rodrick's eyes started to have flames of fury in them, clearly annoyed of my answer. Before he could even make me late for my shift at the bar, I smirked at him and ducked under his hand and walked towards the pizzeria's door.

Present Day
As I stared at the girl on the hospital bed, her features were much more innocent and girly than mine. She had chubby cheeks, pinkish lips and princess-like features; mine were the opposite. I had calloused hands due to working, and my face isn't moisturized like hers because I rarely have the time to pamper myself, and I don't have the money to buy such creams or girly stuff. I would rather fill my stomach with food than buy such creams and make ups that I won't use anyway.
