The moment I took my lips off his cheek,
I knew I had done something wrong.

"Do you like me to take you home?"
The guy was Eric.
"No,"
We sat on the marble surface of the fountain and dipped our feet in the cold water as he wrapped an arm around me and sang songs to comfort me. He was the person I least expected to calm me and comfort me, really. I looked pathetic and miserable and I thought that somebody would mistake me as a party crasher and that nobody would dare to come to me and ask if I was okay— but Eric was there.
I don't know but it seemed as if my confidence crashed when I saw Royce and the girl doing what they wanted to do, intoxicated or not. But when Eric emerged from behind a tree, strumming a guitar and singing a song, that made me more confident about myself.
Royce is a player, he will always be a player and no one can change a player's ways. The heroine who said that she's the one who can save the player from breaking more hearts is nowehere to be found.
I always thought that I'm that heroine. I mean, I tried to be a heroine but it's just that I'm not, it popped into my mind recently that I have to be immune from his charms, to avoid further heartbreak.
Eric had an arm wrapped around my waist to support me so I won't fall backwards, and we were snuggled with each other as we let out some crappy jokes.
"Ah, Maddie!" He exclaimed, sounding giddy like a kid. I faced him with an expectant look on my face and he was smiling.
"Yep?" I sniffed and sneeze. I already have colds.
He chuckled. "Are you sure you don't like to get your feet out of the water?" He moved his feet underwater, creating a splashing sound and sending droplets to my gown. He shot me an apologetic look. "Oops, sorry about that."
I shook my head. "It's okay and no, the water feels good on my feet." I giggled and looked at my gown.
It was a canvas, filled with brush strokes of navy blue and sky blue, mascara tears, and water droplets.
I felt Eric's stare on me and when I turned to face him, I saw the pity in his eyes. It was just a massive heartbreak, no need to pity me. I think.
I grinned at him and spoke to change the atmosphere."You were supposed to say something?"
He blinked and quickly put a smile on his face which instantly lit up the plaza. It seemed as if the lights on the trees and lampposts weren't enough, the watts from his smile compared to the light bulbs were more. Or is it just me?
I smiled. Eric's smile was just contagious.
"Well?"
Eric put a hand on the back of his head and stared at our feet.
"I have a joke, but please don't laugh at me." He stated and slowly turned his head to look at me.
Eric had a serious look on his face but the end of his lips were pulled upwards a little, making him look as if he's smiling.
"Please, tell me it isn't about corns again." I said and rolled my eyes, faking annoyance but I was just making him smile. Eric doesn't annoy me, it's like he always carry some protons in his pocket because he's always optimistic.
Get it? Protons are positive and optimistic people are always positive thinkers too? Don't mind my puns, they aren't pun-ny. Haha!
Eric chuckled and threw his head back as he closed his eyes and smiled. "It isn't about the corns, it's about the stars."
"Oh," I moved an inch closer to him from my spot and did what he was doing. I closed my eyes, placed my hands on my sides and tilted my head backwards.
"The stars are beautiful, aren't they?" I heard Eric say. I opened my left eye slightly, just to take a peek but Eric's eyes were still closed.
I sat up properly and opened both my eyes then punched him jokingly on his arm, making his eyes open and him shout.
"Hey! What was that for?" He complained as he rubbed his arm.
"You were playing jokes on me!" I pouted and looked down at my now crinkly feet. "How could you tell that the stars were pretty or beautiful when you aren't even looking at them,"
I heard another chuckle from him that turned into a fit of laughter. I glared at him and waited for him to calm down, and when he did, he did something out of the blue. Like lightning striking when it's summer and sunny. Something I didn't know he would do.
Eric reached out and touched my face, ending sparks that ignited my unspoken feelings. Then, his lips touched mine. That was when I was able to taste Eric Stalowski's lips; the lips of the band vocalist himself who is used to being chased by the popular and gorgeous students of the college. His lips were soft and sweet, and it was just a peck. A kiss that lasted for at least a second or two, but it was enough to make my knees turn into jelly, and release the battalion of butterfly soldiers in my stomach.
Once his lips were off mine, he spoke.
"Why do I have to gaze at the stars when I've been looking directly at the sun of my world ever since we met at the coffee shop?"
