It turns out that Royce and I completely misunderstood each other. Or it was just me who misunderstood him.
"A date with you?" I scoffed and hurried down the stairs. "Where have your wits gone, Royce?"
"Still in here," He said, making me turn to look at him as my feet touched the floor, and he was tapping his temples with his fingers.
Grunting, I stomped my way to the kitchen to just serve myself with a glass of orange glass. I didn't even make a full breakfast for myself because Royce is just annoying me. He isn't doing anything that is bad for other person's eyes, but to me everything he's doing is plain annoying. Is that how bad boys are? I used to want to date one, but now? No thanks.
It wasn't surprising that he still followed me outside the house and to where I was going. His famous scent labeled, "Cocky and Jerkish" flooded the air surrounding us, making it easy for me to know whether he's still around or not and in our case, he's just behind me.
"Why won't you stop following me?!" I shouted as I continued to walk down the street.
"Why won't you walk slowly so that I can catch up with you and that we'll walk together?" He answered my question with another question, sounding sarcastic. Gritting my teeth, I sped up my pace till I reached the subway and marched downstairs.
I let out a huge sigh of irritation as the both of us were standing in front of the coffee shop, him looking quite triumphant with a cocky smirk on his face and let's just say that you could really tell that I was clearly and completely annoyed. My brows were furrowed, jaw clenched and so were my fists as they were hidden inside my jean pockets.
I heard him let out a chuckle which made me turn to look at him and raise an eyebrow.
"Really?" I asked in annoyance. "Really Royce?"
He turned to face me and the smirk in his face was gone. He looked cold and fierce as he took a step forward, making me take a step back.
"What's the matter, Maddie? We're going on a date, we can't just be like this." He gestured to the distance between us, "About 5 feet away, right?"
It was like we were the same end of the magnet, we couldn't stick together. I don't like to stick next to him, that's why when he did try to stay close to me, I'd dare him to try or a punch will land on his face. Since he cared for his looks so much, we're away from each other for about 5 feet as I wait for Eric and he's waiting for some girl to fall for his bad boy charms and demeanor, and probably hook up with her.
"Stop it, Royce. You're creeping me out," I managed to say. But I admit he did look scary with that poker face of his, like he's just going to punch you or do whatever he has in mind. But I know he isn't that kind of person, he just looks like that.
He shrugged, a smirk returning back to his face and he went back to where he stood then stared blankly across the street. "That's what they always say at first, but then they beg for more." He added a shrug.
"Such a pervert," I muttered under my breath as I glanced at every direction just to get a sight of Eric. Where could he be? He's never late, well I guess till now. I didn't think of him as a tardy person, maybe something just came up and that made him tardy.
Almost half an hour had passed and we still stood here outside the coffee shop, my hands were freezing and it was just so cold that I saw a small cloud in the air as I let out a breath. What's wrong with the weather? It's not even snowing yet, but why is it this chilly?
If I was already wearing a sweater and jacket and felt this cold, I glanced at Royce and saw him shivering. It was like a knock to the door of guilt, so I rolled my eyes and went to him. I tapped his arm, making him look at me in surprise but then he averted his gaze back to the other side of the street.
"Hey, let's go inside and grab some hot choco," I said.
"No, I'm waiting for someone." He said, brushing my fingers off his arm.
"What? You're freezing here! Such a genius for not wearing clothes based on the weather,"
He faced me, a glint of embarrassment visible in his eyes. "What are you talking about? Girls love this typical bad boy look," He ran his gaze up and down my body then raised an eyebrow, looking unamused. "Clearly, you aren't a girl."
"Correction!" I voiced out, "I'm not one of them, but I'm a girl if you aren't blind, Royce. Let's just go inside, I'll buy you hot choco."
Then a grin crept up to his face and he said, "Now, that's what I have been waiting for,"
It's been a while since Royce and I had been left to each other's company, and that was when he got both of us to detention because of his pranks. Sitting on the same table with him as the girls shoot me glares and to him a bunch of flirty looks, we felt kind of close. Kind of not, kind of close.
"So," I began then he let out an "ah", looking satisfied with the mug of hot choco I bought for him.
I stifled a giggle as soon as I saw what Eric must've seen when I drank hot choco, there was froth above his upper lip and he looked like Santa in his teens. And he still looked good.
"What?" He asked, confused.
I pointed on my upper lip and suddenly burst in a fit of laughter as he tried to lick all the froth off his lips, looking like a kid in front of me. It was sudden, we didn't know that we're like how we used to be before love decided to enter and make a mess and now, it felt great.
"It's been a while since I heard you laugh," He stated sincerely as he stared at me.
It made me blush a bit, so I smiled and handed him a piece of his favorite chocolate chip cookie.
"Correction again, it's been a while since you made me laugh like that." I said, and he nodded.
"And it's really good to hear you laugh again, after I became such a jerk-" He was in the middle of saying something when my phone rang, cutting his sentence off. He nodded and made a gesture for me to answer it.
"Just a second," I told him and answered the call. It was Eric.
"Hey, where are you?" I asked before he could even speak. I started to look around the coffee shop to get a glimpse of him but he wasn't here. He said he was still in his college and asked me to go there if it was okay.
"Well, where is it? What college or university is it?" And then he answered the name of the college where my siblings are studying at. That's good news, I can get two jobs done: talk to Eric, and talk to Blake but I would like to get only the former done and pair my sister with Eric. This is such nice news. Ending the call, I looked back at Royce.
"Sorry, you were saying something? You can continue," I said as I put my phone back in my bag.
He looked like his jaw was about to drop then shook his head.
"Don't mind that," He said. "It's the guy you were waiting for?"
"Yeah," I nodded and took a sip of my mug of hot chocolate. "He asked me to go to his college, and it's where the twins are studying as well,"
"You're going to go to his college?" He finished his mug of hot chocolate in a few gulps and wiped his mouth.
"Yeah," I answered and before I even knew it, I added, "You want to come?"
There was something inside me that wanted me to take what I said back, it was my pride. But it felt nice to go out with Royce, if this was his idea of a date. And we felt the same old feeling, just disregarded the "more than friends" kind of feeling that was still there. And by the surprised look that turned into an amused one, I took it as a yes, and that he was excited to meet Eric as well.
