I pressed the button on the side of Jaden's front door and heard the door bell ring. I sighed and stood in silence at the front of his door with my history textbook in my hand.
The door swung open and now Jaden was in my sight. His light brown hair was messy in a cute way. His Nike sweatshirt and black jeans looked good on him. He was wearing only socks with no shoes. His eyes looked up and down my body and I frowned. "Stop." I said.
He grinned. "Stop what?" He asked.
I rolled my eyes. Now he wants to start acting dumb? "Stop looking at me like that." I said.
"Looking at you like what?" I stared at him for a moment before pushing him to the side and walking in the house. This place brought back memories, horrible memories. I shook those memories out of my mind and walked further into the house.
"So, where can we start the project?" I asked, letting my eyes roam the house, or should I say mansion.
"There's a computer in my room." He said.
I rolled my eyes at the thought of being in his room alone with him. I already didn't wanna be in this big house alone with him, now I have to suffer in his room? "Whatever." I muttered before Jaden led me up the stairs and into his gigantic room.
Once I got inside, I plopped myself on his bed like it was my own. My legs were tired from walking up those huge stairs. Jaden looked at me weirdly. "Um make yourself at home..." He said sarcastically.
I smiled and hoped off of his bed. I opened my history book and turned to chapter 31, which was the World War 2 chapter. I walked over to Jaden's Apple computer and sat down. I turned it on and once it started up, I went to the PowerPoint icon. "Alright, Jalen. I know you probably know nothing about the history of World War 2. So just back off and let me do all the work." I said, typing the first slide.
I didn't mind doing all the work. I didn't even wanna work with partners in the first place. I do just fine on my own. "I actually do know about World War 2." He said.
I turned around to face him. "Oh really? What's the Bombing of Pearl Harbor and what affect did it have on the United Sates?" I asked.
"It's. It's...um...never mind." He said.
"My point exactly." I turned back around in my chair and continued typing. "You know, you should really study more. Next year is senior year and if you don't study more, you're gonna be still in high school while I'm gonna be in college." I mentioned.
"Maybe." He said, looking at himself in his hand held mirror.
I typed a full section and he was still looking at himself in that mirror. I got up and snatched mirror from his hand. "What is wrong with you? Get over yourself and put this mirror down." I said, slamming the mirror on his bed.
"It's not my fault I admire my sexiness." He said.
I stared at him for a while, trying to process what he just said. "You're unbelievable." I said.
"I know." He said, grinning at me.
"And you're a jerk." I stated.
"How am I a jerk?" He asked me, giving me a weird face expression.
"You cheated on Ariel with Kelsey." I said. I don't know what made me bring that topic up. I just felt like he needed to know how dumb and arrogant he was for doing that.
"How did you find out about that?"
"Lana told me." I said. "You completely changed her. You turned her into a shy, quiet, hidden girl because you made her feel like shit." I said, trying to make him feel the guilt that he should be feeling.
"I know okay. I know I was wrong. I know how stupid I was. Now can we please stop talking about this." He said.
"Fine." I said, walking back to the computer desk. I started typing and getting back on track with my work. After a whole section, I decided to take a little break. I sat back in the chair. I shifted my head to the left, and my eyes landed on the picture. The picture of Jaden and the little girl.
I still wonder who she is. My eyes continue to bore into the picture as I look at both of them. They looked close to each other. They looked atta-
"Her names Skyler." He said, interrupting my train of thought. He must of seen me staring at the picture. His eyes were also glued to the picture.
"It's okay. You don't have to tell me if you don't want to. Let's just get back to the pr-"
"She's my little sister. She was 11 years old. She had anorexia. She probably still does. My mom and dad took her to the children's hospital one day, so she could get treated for her anorexia. My parents dropped her off and drove off. On that same day, my mom called Skyler's nurse to ask how she was doing with the treatment. The nurse said that Skyler never showed up. And on that night, we got a message that she had been kidnapped. No one knows who took her, no one knows where she is, and no one knows what happened to her." Jaden's eyes bore into the picture and I could see the hurt begin to grow in his eyes. I've never seen Jaden's face look so vulnerable. "The police closed the case after 1 year. Skyler could be any where. She could be hurt, she could be scared. She could be dead Janelle."
My heart sank into my chest as he said those finally words. He voice sounded so soft, yet I could hear how he was feeling. He's hurt. I never thought I would see this side of him. I didn't even know what to say or what to do.
"Jaden...it's okay. I'm sure she's okay. I just...I don't know what to-" I got interrupted by the sound of a horn honking. The must be my dad. I told him to pick me up at about 2:00. It's 2:15. "I'm sorry Jaden. I'll see you tomorrow." I said, grabbing my bag.
I was about to walk about before Jaden called my name. "Janelle." He said.
"Yeah?"
"Do you think she's okay?" He asked me.
I nodded. "I'm sure she's okay." I said, weakly smiling before walking out of the room.
Well that was unexpected. I don't even know what to think anymore.
