I hesitantly knocked on Jaden's front door. I brushed my knee length black, lace dress with my hands and looked up at the door, waiting for someone to answer.
The person who answered the door was a tall blonde woman who I'm guessing is Jaden's mom. She wiped a small tear from her eye. "The funeral hasn't even started yet and I'm already tearing up." Jaden's mom gave me a weak smile. "Come in." I slowly stepped into the huge home.
Jaden's mom was wearing tall, black high heels and a black dress that stopped a little above her knees. Her blonde hair was pulled into a meat bun with a few strands of hair hanging out of it. "Can I get you anything to drink or something?" She politely asked me.
"No thank you." I said. She nodded.
"Well, we'll be heading out in a few minutes. We're just waiting on Jaden to get ready. Make yourself at home." She said.
I sat on the couch and looked up at the high ceilings. At first, I was a little unsure if I wanted to come to this funeral, but it's really important for Jaden and his family and I didn't just wanna be rude and diss them.
"Alright I'm ready. We can-" the voice behind me stopped. I turned around to see Jaden coming down the stairs, his eyes glued on me. My eyes were stuck on him. He looked surprisingly good in the black suite. I never knew he could wear something so nice and look so good and clean in it. "Janelle, your coming?" He asked.
I nodded awkwardly at him. "Shall we...get going?" Jaden's dad asked in a quiet tone.
"Let's go." Jaden's mom led us to the garage. The car we got in was a red Mustang. Jaden's dad drove, his mom was in the passenger seat and of course I was stuck in the back seat with Jaden.
I sighed and put my hand on my cheek and looked out the window as we backed out of the driveway and began driving to the funeral home.
A few minutes later, I felt my phone buzz in my handbag. I opened it and took out my phone. I looked at the screen.
Jaden: Why'd you come?
I furrowed my eyebrows at the screen and turned to Jaden who was looking at me with his phone in his hand. I sighed and began typing a reply.
Me: You didn't want me to come?
Jaden: No, I'm glad you're here, but why? I thought you said we weren't friends.
Me: This is your sister. You told me that the funeral was today, so I wasn't jus gonna bail. I just...idk I'm here so just deal with it.
I pressed send and put my phone back in my handbag. I looked out the window and saw that the clouds were extremely grey. I'm guessing there's about to be a storm.
A few minutes later, I felt my phone buzz again. I sighed in frustration and opened my bag and pulled out my phone.
Jaden: Do you have feelings for me?
I started at the text message, mentally cursing him for sending me this. I was about to put my phone away before it buzzed again.
Jaden: Answer
My face started to turn red in anger and I gritted my teeth.
Me: Would you just drop it!?
I didn't mean to sound rude, but he was making me feel really awkward. And that scared me. I didn't want to say yes to his question, but I also didn't wanna say no.
What if I do have feelings for him? I asked myself. I mentally scowled myself for even asking myself that question.
We finally pulled up to the funeral home minutes later. We all got out of the car and walked to the entrance to the funeral home. "Everyone keep on strong faces. Skylar wouldn't want us crying." Jaden's mom said before brushing her dress with her hands, taking a deep breath and opening the double doors to the building.
When we walked in, we took our seats and of course Jaden sat close to me. I felt a little uncomfortable, but I decided not to say anything.
There was a large picture of the little girl in the middle of the room. She was really pretty.
A couple minutes later, a women who looked exactly like Jaden's mom- I'm guessing that's her sister, and Jaden's aunt- approached the stage. She lowered the microphone and spoke. "We are all gathered here today to witness the ending ceremony of Skylar Destiny Wilson. She was the sweet daughter of Parker and Denise Wilson, and the loving little sister of Jaden Wilson..." I looked at Jaden who was looking down at his hands. I sighed as the woman continued her speech.
A few more people went up to do some speeches. Jaden's parents teared up a couple of times, but I could tell they were trying their hardest to keep strong faces. Jaden just spent the majority of the time with his head down. He probably didn't want to cry in front of me.
Half way through the speeches, I felt something touch my right hand. I looked down at my hand to see that Jaden was slowly moving his hand near mine. I rolled my eyes, but didn't say anything. I tried to keep all my harsh feelings inside today. Jaden has already been through a lot for one week, I don't wanna piss him off even more.
His hands slowly moved closer and closer to mine and then he suddenly intertwined our fingers together. Suddenly, my skin started to heat up in an awkward way. Now we just sat there, holding hands. I didn't know what else to do but keep holding his hand. I mentally shrugged it off and continued to listen to the speeches with our hands still together.
~~~~~~"Well, the funeral went well. Let's just all be happy that soon, our little Skylar will be in a better place." Jaden's mom said, dabbing her eyes with a tissue as we walked in the parking lot and to the car.
I climbed in the back seat of the car and once everyone was in, we drove off.
When we got back to Jaden's house, I awkwardly said goodbye to Jaden and his parents and then walked back home. Halfway through my walk, I took my high heels off and decided to walk barefoot. The high heels were killing my feet.
When I reached my house, I unlocked the door and went straight to my room. I plopped on my bed and let out a huge groan. I then heard a loud sound of thunder and some rain pouring down. There goes the storm...
I looked up at the ceiling and thought about what I've gotten myself into ever since I came to Valley Ridge high school. How did I become best friends with a girl who had an affair with the biology teacher? How did I get mixed up with two guys that both have feelings for me, but are completely different?
Logan is the perfect one. He has good looks, good grades, all that. And Jaden, he's...not perfect. He cheats, he lies, he gets suspended, throws wild parties and...
I'm done thinking. It's only 12:00 noon and I already wanna go to sleep. I changed into some comfortable clothing and got into my bed and slowly drifted asleep.
