Chapter Eight

The new comer in church had slipped out during the prayer segment. No one seemed to know who she was or who invited her, he'd asked.

She was beautiful, anyone who said otherwise was either blind, jealous or two times stupid.

The next Sunday he'd seen her, she'd maintained her seat from then.

First seat on the second row, close to the choir.

Once he'd been close to her while she helped set up service and heard her sing. Her voice was beautiful as well.

Chestnut hair, honey brown eyes, perfect nose, perfect lips and her olive complexion brought it all together. She was a stunner.

She always dressed beautifully as well. The way she walked and carried herself screamed class.

But she was awfully shy.

At least he thought that was the case as she mostly kept to herself whenever she was around. Never waited after the service, never saw her talking to anyone for longer than a minute. A minute was way too long to be having a conversation with her.

Well he was going to change that.

Fourth of July was around the corner, he knew he wanted her to come around for their church celebration. He wanted to see her in a pair of jeans for a change, and her hair in a different hair do.

He finally noticed her, and what a thrill it gave her.

Honey had been badgering her for help with her mission as they were inter-related and she had told her in very clear words that she was never going to do that.

So sad that she thought Darius was Duncan and had caught the wrong person in her web. But she wasn't going to help her by pointing that out, there was no fun in that.

The thoughts on the repercussions Honey would face for roping the wrong guy gave her satisfaction.

Pay back was simply delicious.

After the set up when they were kids, she'd vowed to get even with Honey and Penny. Penny's had been swift and she'd paid with her life. Honey narrowly escaped with her life, she'd given her a smile and said it was fine.

No time like the present.

Her thoughts were interrupted by someone sliding into the seat next to hers.

Turning to give her practiced smile she froze when she saw Duncan. He was way more handsome up close.

My would you look at that...

She never knew it'd be this easy.

Soon enough the service began but he didn't leave to join the choir as usual, he sat with her through the service.

Standing up to leave a hand was placed on her arm, just slightly to show her attention was required.

Nobody touched her, she had an aversion for it.

'Hey um, can we sit for a minute. This won't take long I promise. I'm Duncan', he stretched his hand out for a handshake.

Tentatively she took the offered hand.

'Symphony',

'Lovely name, well I want to invite you for the 4th of July celebrations',

'I already have plans',

'Oh. That's cool, but it'll be really fun if you came though. I want to assume that your plan isn't for the whole day, so give us an hour of your time for that day. We start by 5pm',

'My plans actually begin by then',

'You'll make me admit it won't you?', she smirked at him.

'I don't know what you're talking about',

'Fine, I want you there. There I've said it', she tried to look indecisive but he saw through it.

'Okay, but I can be there for one hour though. I have work',

'That's more than enough time. Thank you and well played',

She gave a little laugh as she walked out of the church hall. It took everything in her not to burst into a dance.

This was too easy.

'I swear dude, it's just like you to swoop in and catch the new hottie before any of us have the chance to know her name', Ben said as he came towards where Duncan was standing rolling up some wires.

'Sucks to be you then', Duncan laughed as Ben grimaced.

'You done? Cause this is the last one for me', Ben asked gesturing to the wires.

'Yep, George has the rest covered. Come on, let me buy your slow ass pizza. Think you can keep up?', Duncan taunted Ben.

'Shut up Rodriguez',

Duncan laughed as he went over to tell George that they were leaving.

'Symphony you're up in two hours, where the hell are you?', Janice screamed through the speaker but she was well on her way to the fourth of July picnic.

'I'm on a personal errand Janice, find someone else to do it. If you truly wanted me on that stage you'd have told me weeks ago. My time is not yours', not wanting for a response she ended the call.

She knew Janice was cursing her out to her fifth generation but she could care less.

Pulling into the picnic location she looked around and felt over dressed in her lightly ripped blue jeans, crop top and designer jacket.

Everyone present was either in a pair of shorts or leggings, with few on short sun dresses. The guys were no help in their shorts and tees.

Deciding to change it up a bit, she unbound her hair and was in the process of taking of her jacket when she locked eyes with Duncan.

He was coming towards her car.

'Hey you', he greeted when he was close enough.

'Hey, just a minute please', she quickly ran a comb through her hair before alighting. She took off the jacket to lay it carefully on her passenger seat.

Bending down her top rose up a bit to expose some skin, revealing a tattoo.

Hmmmm, definitely not shy then.

'I'm ready', she said as she closed her car door.

'This way my lady', he extended an elbow. She smiled before placing her hand on his arm and allowed him lead her to wherever.
