A New Friend

It was a few days until the wedding and everything with the planning was done!  Katie and I were at the hotel just hanging out by the pool at my hotel while Sadie was at her grandparent's house.

"Now this is the life, Saint.  This is the most relaxation I've had in a very long time. It's so quiet and peaceful I could live here."

"I believe it.  With Sadie and Josh, you must never get a second of peace. At the same time though I know you'll be the first one crying that Sadie is all grown up and you want your baby back! But you know what would make this day even better?"

Katie lifted her sunglasses and looked at me. "A chocolate chip Frappuccino from Starbucks? That has extra whipped cream and chocolate drizzle."

"Yep! It's like you are inside my mind!" We both laughed.

Katie put her sunglasses back down. "But I am way too comfortable to leave."

"Well, how about I go get us some?  It's only like 3 blocks and because I don't have a child or husband around, I don't need the quiet as you do. You stay and relax by the pool."

"You really wouldn't mind?"

I shook my head and started to get up. "Nope, I will go grab us some and be back in like 45 minutes."

"Ok, thank you, I owe you one."

I ran up to my room and changed and walked over to the closest Starbucks. Of course, when I get there, the line is super long.  I had to have been standing there for a good 15 minutes before Katie texted to check in. I texted back that it was busy, but I was trying to hurry and then I heard someone in front of me.

"Man, don't you just hate how long it takes to get coffee anymore?"

I looked up and came face to face with some really pretty woman. She looked kind of familiar, but I couldn't put my finger on how I might know her. Before I looked rude, I answered her.

"Yea, I've been waiting for like 15 minutes now and there are still 4 people ahead of me.  But I guess that's what you get at a Starbucks. It's just so good everyone wants it."

She laughed before answering. "Yea I love Starbucks but not when it means getting my caffeine takes a whole hour!"  We both shared a laugh at that.  She reached out her hand toward me.

"Hi, my name is Ava."  I took her hand to shake it.

"Hi, I'm Saint."  Now I know I'm not crazy, this girl seriously seems familiar! I just wish I could figure it out.

"So Saint, do you live around here? I don't think I've seen you in here before."

"No, I used to live around here but I moved. I just came back for a friend's wedding before going back home."

"My fiancé and I live in a nice house a little bit outside town.  He's here in town on business and I tagged along with him, even though he didn't want me to. He always likes to take his trips by himself."

That is kind of strange, I mean why wouldn't you want your fiancé with as much as possible? Doesn't seem like a very loving relationship to me. But who am I to judge?

Just then before I even got a chance to answer I heard a pop, pop, pop noise that sounded like gunshots.  Before I knew what was happening, I pushed Ava down, since I was going that way anyway. We lay on the ground while I heard people screaming and stuff being knocked down. Finally, it seemed like it was calming down so I figured we could stand up now.

As we stood up, I heard a lot of commotion and saw that people were coming out from behind the counter and from under tables.  Luckily it seemed that no one was hit.
