Another Gun Another Day

After my bath, I threw on my pajamas and got ready for bed. Katie texted me and said she was fighting trying to get Sadie to bed and then passing out, so I was going to turn on a movie and watch it till I fall asleep.  Before I got a chance to lie down though there was a knock on the door. I got up and opened it and it was Ava.

"Ava, what are you doing here?"

"Can I come in?" I stepped back from the door, and she walked in. "So where is your friend that needed you?" I didn't want her to know I lied so I had to think of something quick.

"She ended up staying at her parent's longer than she expected, she is on the way though."  Ava nodded her head and I think she believed that.

"Oh, alright, so I have something that I need to ask you."  She sat down on the bed, I stayed where I was.

"What did you have to ask me?"  She crossed her arms and didn't seem very happy.

"Well, I just wanted to make sure that Damon didn't say something to scare you away. I know that he can be scary to people who aren't used to him.  But I mean you knew him years ago, right?"

I shook my head.  "Yes, like he said I knew him way back in high school.  You're right though about him being scary now, it was a little intimidating."

This isn't something I should even think about, but I will say Damon has grown up.  I mean he was drop-dead gorgeous when we were together but it's like he got even better looking. His arms have gotten bigger and I'm sure that damn six-pack is even more defined.  I don't think it's very fair and it's not like I was going to tell Ava about that.

She was picking at something on the bed before she looked at me, I was getting kind of nervous.  She wasn't giving me the nice vibes I got from her when we first met. Finally, she spoke.

"I don't know, there just seemed to be something more there if you know what I mean."  My palms were starting to sweat a little bit.

"No, I am not sure what you are talking about."  She stood up and walked over to me.

"There's one thing that I didn't get a chance to tell you about.  But I am a very jealous woman.  I mean, if I even get the slightest feeling that someone likes my man then we will have a problem."

"Look Ava, I don't know what you think, but I can assure you that there is nothing there.  I have a boyfriend who I've been with for years and we are in love.  You have nothing to worry about."

She kept reaching behind her, almost like she was itching her back.  It was making me more nervous by the second.  When she looked back at me there was something really scary in her eyes.

"See, I thought that you and I could be friends.  When you left, I went home and looked through Damon's things.  Yes, I know that he will be pissed but I had a suspicion, and guess what?  My suspicion was correct!"

She pulled out a picture of me in bed, sleeping, laying on my stomach with my arms under my head.  You could tell I had no shirt on because the blanket was pulled down to my lower back.  From the background, it looks like my bedroom from my mom's house.  I think that was our last time together.  On the back of the picture, it said "the love of my life."

"Ava, I have no idea where that picture came from, I swear!"  She threw the picture at me, and it hit my chest and fell to the ground.

"How about you start with the truth?  How do you know Damon?"  I don't think lying is going to help here so I might as well tell the truth. I took a deep breath.

"Ok, Damon and I dated for a while before we ended things and I moved away.  But like I said now there isn't anything there and I am with someone else now."  She reached behind her again only this time she pulled out a gun.  Why does this always happen to me?
