Around four days after my trip to town, things were a bit more quiet at home. I was left to my own devices as my mother and sister were becoming busier with wedding preparations. The wedding was coming closer, which was the cause for my mother and sister's absence at home, the cause of my brother's absence being my father requesting his company at work.
As I was at home reading in the drawing room, quite content with the quiet, our head butler came into the room. "Miss Y/N," he cleared his throat, "You have a visitor."
The butler turned to go bring the visitor to the drawing room as I stood up from the couch, brushing the front of my dress as I had no idea who it was, being that I wasn't expecting anyone to come over, visit, or come home until later in the evening.
"Thank you, sir," the familiar voice of Yelena Belova said to the butler, him responding with a "Of course Miss Yelena," and turning to me as he dismissed himself, "Need you anything, I will be right down the hall."
As the butler left me and Yelena in the room alone, I opened my mouth to ask her why she was here, only she spoke first, stepping towards me as I was in the center of the room, and she in front of the closed door. "I just had to see you again," she said, a moment of quiet falling between us as I found myself not breathing for a moment, my heart pricking in my chest at the sentence.
"I--Well--We," I stammered, shaking my head as I looked around the room as if the motion would help me form a sentence. Words were unable to form from my mouth, words weren't even an option in my brain as I couldn't form a single or specific thought.
"I'm just kidding," she said, breaking from the tone of urgency with a smile, "I'm here to pick you up."
"I--What? Pick, for what? Why?"
"Oh, your mother didn't send for you to be told?" her eyebrows creased, her head tilted for a second before she shook her head, "Your mother and sister are in Charleston for the evening, a riot has broken out...Something for a protest of sorts and they're in the heart of it. Our fathers and your brother are going to head over and pick them up. But, given the hours of distance from each town, they plan to find a hotel for the night and make the day's travel tomorrow instead."
"Wait, so," I picked at my fingernails, "I'm going with..."
"Me," she nodded, "Mother and Natasha are home as well but yes, you'll be staying with us for the time being..." she rocked on the balls of her feet as she exhaled, looking around the room, "Nice ceiling," she pointed. "Need you help packing?"
"I--um, no? No," I said, "Thank you...You can wait here, if you would like, while I pack."
Yelena nodded, swaying her hands as she moved forward to sit on the couch in the room, "I'll be here..." she said, flumping onto the couch.
I ran the entire situation through my mind, finding myself concerned for my entire family as my mother and sister were in a town with protestings, and have nowhere to go as of right now. And on top of that, my father and brother were to head in that same town, they'd all be in the middle of the same chaos and I could only worry and hope that they would be alright.
