Growing together

So a month speeds by. Anokhi was navigating through the challenges of a college plagued by toppers from across the country. It was hard because she didn't always win. There were a couple of tests. She did well in some, some were ok and some were bad. One particular test went very bad. She was asked to discuss a case and she wasn't as mathematical as required. She was heartbroken. She was so upset that she didn't pick up calls on pretext of having work or sleeping. Shaurya sensed something was off. He decided to do something to cheer her up. So three days later Anokhi finds a courier. She opens it to reveal chocolate chip cookies in a container. With a note.

"I don't know what is wrong but just thought to send you this. Hope it makes you feel good."

She took a bite. It was exactly how her cookies tasted but how was that possible? Shaurya! He must have baked them for her. She called him up.

Anokhi-Shaurya! Tumne mere liye bake kia? Thanks that's so sweet. I know I haven't been talking. It's just that I don't want to discuss failures.

Shaurya-I know. We don't have to. I know you think that since I have always known you as topper, you not doing well might throw me off. But I love the person Anokhi. It's not about the topper. Yeah that was a turn on. But the switch is your love. It's your righteousness. I am good with a class rank of 15 as I am with 1. It's just that I want the best for you. Shayd kabhi tumhe dant bhi doon because I think you have potential. Your grades don't change how I feel for you. (Wish someone would tell the writer this).

Anokhi-Thanks but it's just that I want it all. Love kafi nhi hai mere liye. I want success and love.

Shaurya-I know. But what's success. To me success is growth. Success can't be an absolute entity. If you have it what next? If you don't have it so what? So I measure my success as growth. Think about it. Try to grow that's it.

Anokhi-One of the wisest people I have ever known is you. But I need my time. To adjust to failing.

Shaurya-Hmmm. Take it. I am there. Anokhi I understand its all new for you. Koi baat nhi. I am not going anywhere.

Anokhi-You are magic!!!But tell me about the cookies.

Shaurya-Wow! Net se seekha but you know I have joined classes. Cooking classes. Shadi ke baad ki training le rha hoon.

Anokhi-Hmmm. I gotta catch up. If my acads weren't this hectic mein bhi seekhti.

Shaurya-No worries! I will become expert. Fir mein sab bana ke tumhe khilaunga.

Anokhi-Hmmm. But I love gajjar ka halwa. Woh seekhke rakhna please. When I come I want to eat tumhare hath ka khana.

Shaurya-Pakka. I am on it.

Anokhi-Waise. I am glad you are taking up a hobby to keep yourself busy.

Shaurya-Yup. Not seeing you around on weekends is hard. So this. This is for us. It keeps me busy. But it's also so I can cook for you. It's for us.

Anokhi-Can you stop being adorbs. Please.

Shaurya-Nope! No way. I don't want younger guys swaying my girl away.

Anokhi-Not happening. No guy can match your levels of romance. Your old school romance is the bestest. I didn't know it existed. I mean mujhe lagta tha all of this is only in sharukh movies. But real life mein bhi yeh sab hota hai I didn't know. You are both #fairytale and #truestory.

Shaurya-Are we ever gonna get less cheesy?

Anokhi-Nope. Not even after kids. Not even after 30 years down the line as we have cornetto in that huge Sabbarwal mansion lawn.

Shaurya-Yup. I thought so. We haven't discussed your thoughts on Sabbarwal mansion. I need to take that up with you.

Anokhi-Sure! Thing. That could be a roast though I fear. I mean painted walls. Is the glam notch a bit too up? But has to be showoff is a classic trait of the Sabbarwals which has been concentrated with progress of generations.

Shaurya-Matlab humare bache aur bade show offs honge?

Anokhi-Arre thodasa mere bhi genes honge to balance it out.

Shaurya-Yup to balance my faded colors with your loud Reds naa?

Anokhi-Yup! Hold on are we discussing kids? I mean thats a whole new level of comfort and growth in our relationship. So a success?

Shaurya-Sure! It's one. I toh really want kids Anokhi.

Anokhi-Me too I guess.

Shaurya-I am gonna pamper you so much! Just watch!

Anokhi-Tum already itna pamper karte ho mujhe yaar. But haan we are growing Shaurya. Closer. We are growing together. Slowly we are getting to a point of wanting the same things in the long run. I don't want to marry yet. But the happily married future appears far more rosy and appears to be far more mine today then it did when we started out. That time marriage seemed distant. I think I am getting secure. I am becoming okay with this idea of lifelong commitment. There is a middle ground to retaining your individuality and loving someone. We have found it.

Shaurya-I see that. I see the way tum abhi open up ho gyi ho. You are no longer scared to share. You have let me completely into your world. I didn't ask for marriage. I asked to be let into your world. I am glad you have. I would love to marry you right now. Would do anything for that. Except make you do something you don't want to do. I will wait happily for the day that you come up to me and say Shaurya will you be my forever? I can't wait but I would rather wait.

Anokhi-Shaurya we will get there. I promise you I will get to marriage. I am going to ask your hand one day. Just not today.

Shaurya-Hmmm. Cool. Aaj ke liye itna kafi hai that you can smile as you think of having kids with me. That makes me so happy that I am dead. I mean I am crazy happy.

Anokhi-Stay happy humesha.

Shaurya-Humesha is our word naa?

Anokhi-Yup! Humesha.

Shaurya-Humesha. Bye.

Anokhi keeps the phone . She was all smiles. She whispered humesha. And looked at the frame in her room which had a family photo with the Sabbarwals. Both whisper I love you by looking at each other's photos.

How was the update? Intended to write something. Kuch aur hi ban gya. I know suddenly there was a completely English update but that's what felt true to this update. So i didn't change it. Enjoy! Do comment.
