It was Christmas Eve in a cold, snow covered Chicago and the intelligence unit had just finished their week long case and Voight told them to go home and they will finish the paperwork next week. As the team were leaving Ruzek piped up "Anyone up for a few drinks at Molly's" he asked "yeah" "sure" "why not" responded Halstead, Atwater and Lindsay almost in unison. They arranged to meet at Molly's after shift so Jay said to Lindsay the he would pick her up at 20:00 meaning that would give them an hour to get ready, she agreed and then they all left to go head home and get ready.

Jay's POV

I was really looking forward to going out with the unit tonight, especially since it is Christmas tomorrow and my family don't live in Chicago, but I was more excited about the fact that Erin had agreed to go out tonight. The case this week had been a tough one, not only was the guy a sex offender but he targeted children and that really got under Erin's skin. I know she likes to act all tough and focus on catching the bad guys but inside these cases really take a toll on her, of course I would never say that to Erin because she never lets anyone see her emotional side but I know that it's there and that cases like this really irritate her.

Erin's POV

This week has been so long and the case has been really tough. I agreed to go out with the rest of the guys from the unit and Burgess, I said I would meet them at Molly's around 20:00 but I really don't know if I can face it. It's not that I don't want to go and spend time with me unit on Christmas Eve because with the exception of Voight and Teddy they are the only family I have and need. However after such a long week and a difficult case tonight I really could to with staying in and sitting on the couch with a tub of Ben and Jerry's and watching a movie. So I decided to text Jay to tell him I wasn't going.

Jay's POV

I got myself ready, I went with a simple t-shirt and jeans. As I grabbed my wallet and phone I headed out the door and down towards my car. As approached my car I unlocked it and got inside, just as I turned the engine on and was getting ready to pull out of my parking space and head towards Molly's when I received a text. I quickly picked up my phone and read the name that had flashed up on my screen it was Erin. My stomach flipped at the thought her, it took me a couple of minutes to calm myself and come out of the trance state that I had somehow managed to get into and I looked at my phone. "Hey, I don't think I'm going to be able to make it tonight, I'm tired so I think I will just have and early night, tell the guys I'm sorry and to have a good night anyway." Read the text a couple of times and then replied with a simple "Okay. Are you alright? I know this week was a tough one." I sent the text and then headed for Molly's. I knew that if Erin said she was fine that meant she wasn't but I would let it slide and then check on her later, I didn't want to push her and I had to show my face at Molly's anyway.

Erin's POV

As I sat on my couch munching my way through a tub of Ben and Jerry's, whilst watching Divergent for like the hundredth time, my phone vibrated on my table. I paused the movie and and headed over to my table and grabbed my phone and I realised it was a message from Jay. I smiled to myself as I was reading his message, I knew he cared for me, I mean we are partners, but it was always nice to see his caring side outside of work. I replied stating that I was fine and that he and the rest of the unit were to have a good time anyway. I went back over to my couch and continued watching my movie.

Jay's POV

As I arrived at Molly's the place was so busy I could hardly get in the door. Once I had fought my way through the crowd and said hello to everyone at Firehouse 51 who were there for the Christmas night out, I made my way to the units usual table and said hello to them all. As I sat down Atwater stood up and turned to face me " It's my round, you want a beer" I smiled at Atwater and nodded he smiled back and then weaved his way through the crowd to the bar, I turned back to everyone else at the table. "I'm only having one more drink then I will be heading home to Laura and the kids, since it's Christmas Eve and all." Antonio States to the rest of the unit "This is the last one for me too." Alvin chirped. The rest of the unit headed to Molly's earlier than 20:00 as Antonio and Alvin had a family to get home to and well Ruzek, Burgess and Atwater just wanted to have a good time since it was the festive season. Once Atwater came back I sat back and drank my beer whilst watching all my co-workers chat and laugh. Since I hadn't heard back from Erin I decided to check my phone. I pulled it out of my pocket and unlocked it and quickly noticed I had a message from Erin, I opened it "I'm fine. Hope you and the rest of the unit have a good time." I smiled
to myself, she used the classic "I'm fine". I finished my beer, said goodbye and Merry Christmas to the rest of the unit and left with Antonio and Alvin. I got in my car and started driving, before I realised what I was doing, I had started driving towards the most important woman in my life's house, I pulled up outside her apartment block. I swiftly got out of my car and climes the stairs to her apartment. I stood at her door for a couple of seconds and I started to doubt my decision about dropping by, I quickly shook the thoughts out of my head and knocked on her door.
