Erin's POV
Today is Jay and I's first day back at the district since he proposed. I couldn't wait to tell everyone. We were planning to just invite them all to Molly's after shift, that way we could break the news in an area where Voight might not erupt and kill us all, considering he still didn't know about our relationship and now I'm about to tell him we are getting married, I ho early think I have a death wish.
Jay's POV
I was nervous about tonight, I'm not going to lie, but I knew I just had to get through the day first. "Lindsay move your ass, we're going to be late." I yelled form the front door of our apartment, it's technically still Erin's but thats just a minor detail. As came scrambling out of the bedroom in those jeans that I love so much, I knew it was going to be a difficult day, "You can't call me that for much longer Halstead!" She said whilst simultaneously walking past me and straight out the door. I quickly locked the door and chased down the hall after her. I lunged forward enough to grab Erin's hand and spin her round, ""much longer" when exactly are we getting married?" I asked with a hearty chuckle. Erin laughed and in return offered, "well we won't be at this rate. late for work and then telling Voight we are engaged. It will be a funeral instead of a wedding!" We shared a laugh and hurried out to the car.
Erin's POV
We arrived at the district just in time for out shift. However when we got there it was clear that Voight was already in a bad mood. Jay and I shared a look and say at out desks whilst, Voight stormed out of his office. He started barking orders about an old case that has been open for a while, and one of Al's CI's has given us a tip off. Basically it meant a long day, and no Molly's announcement, it would have to wait.
Jay's POV
Since I entered the district this morning it's been non stop. The phones have been ringing constantly and Platt's been up everyone's ass about having to walk up and down the stairs all day. It was lunchtime however and things had slowed slightly, Voight and Al were away out talking to Al's CI and Atwater and Ruzek, were checking out the area we had been tipped off about. That left Erin and Antonio in the office looking through old paperwork and case files, whilst Mouse and I checked CCTV. Ruzek had text to say him and Atwater were on their way back and would bring lunch with them. About 30 mins later they strolled up the stairs with lunch, and I had honestly never been so happy to see a bag of take out in all my life. We all sat at our desks and went to tuck into our food. Just then Voight and Al came bounding up the stairs with Burgess and Roman in toe. "Guys get suited up we gotta roll" Voight bellowed through the district and without a second thought the unit all stood and rushed to get changed.
Erin's POV
Jay helped me with my vest and in return I helped him. It had always been like that, one first then the other, like a habit - a good one none the less. I picked up the keys for the car and turned to see Jay faking a pain in his chest as if I had just stabbed him in the heart by picking up the keys. I punched his arm playfully and headed for the car with him hurrying behind me. The unit had taken up our go to car chase position, it was nothing out of the ordinary. The car was in a comfortable, whilst we watched the building out suspect was in, that was at least until Jay decided to speak, "So no Molly's tonight then?" He questioned, although he already knew the answer. "No I guess not" I replied. Part of him seemed relieved yet I could tell something was still bugging him. "What's up Jay?" He looked and me and then sighed, " it's just I knew how much tonight meant to you, and I just don't want you to miss out.....so I was gonna say.... And this is only if you want to, we could wait behind at the district and tell Voight first??" " I mean the rest of the unit can find out tomorrow, if we are still alive that is" we both laughed and I nodded, " I love you" he smiled "I love you too" he said.
Jay's POV
so we were telling Voight after all. Well at least that's what we thought, before a car came hurtling down the side street and headed straight for our car, sending us toppling over onto the pavement. All I could see was blood running from Erin's head before everything went black.....
