Jay's POV
It has been unusually quiet day at work for a Tuesday, it had mostly been spent catching up on paper work and receiving intel from our CI's. It was just gone 12:30 when I went into the break room to get an, extremely overdue, cup of coffee. As I was pouring the freshly brewed coffee into my cup I heard gentle footsteps approaching behind me. Without thinking I grabbed her cup from the shelve and filled it with coffee. I felt her presence at my side and a small smile pulling at the corners of my mouth. As I passed Erin her cup of coffee she gently brushed her fingers against mine, a silent "Hi", I smiled in return and picked up my cup. As we both stood side by side in the break room, our hips touching, Erin was the first to break the comfortable silence, "My place tonight?" she asked, "Where else would I be." was all I said before walking out of the break room, turning once just before the door to give her my signature smile, that I knew she loved.
Erin's POV
After my short but sweet conversation with Jay in the break room, he was the only thing I could think about. It was going to be a long day, one by the looks of things we were all going to be stuck behind our desks for the day and two I couldn't wrap my arms around Jay or sit next to Jay or do anything out of the ordinary with Jay, I had to act professional at least until tonight. I was abruptly brought out of my thoughts when I heard Hank braking orders. A big case that we have been trying to solve for a while, but we couldn't as the prep had came off the grid, had just re-opened and we had eyes on the perp. Jay and I rushed out to the car after quickly getting our vests on after briefing.
Jay's POV
We arrived at the abandoned warehouse, on the other side of the city, about fifteen minutes later, due to Erin's extremely fast driving and that the roads were dead. We all got out of our cars and met together for one final briefing from Voight, "I will go in first, followed by Halstead and Lindsay, Al and Ruzek go round the back and Antonio and Atwater round the side, everybody got it?" Voight barked. Everyone nodded simultaneously and we swiftly headed off in our respected directions. "On my count" Voight radioed, "3...2...1..GO,GO,GO!!!" Before I could process what was happening we were already inside the building and clearing different rooms Voight disappeared out of my sight, but Lindsay was right by my side, where she should be. Moments later I heard two gunshots coming from down the hall, so Lindsay and I ran to the room where we heard the shots, whilst Antonio and Atwater cleared the rest of the rooms. We shared a nod before entering to find one of the most devastating sights. Voight. On the floor in a pool of his own blood. One shot to the shoulder and another to the chest.
